Come in if you understand what a dual processor is for

Post by BlackVelvet »

I want to buy a laptop and I want a fast one. The last one I owned got very slow and I don't know why. Even after I delete everything the thing is still slow.

I tried reading up on Laptop memory and speed and there are a lot of i's and v's and I don't understand anything.

Also all the laptops around me, Toshibas, hps they all have superbly horrible battery lives and go off in about 10min max. Why? Do you have to buy a new battery after a while?

Marka yaa Tech aware people I need serious help because I need a laptop that will loyally stay by my side for at least 5yrs. (you can see I have grown very pessimistic with technology) And I am too poor to but a Mac so let's not even go there.

What do you suggest? When I go to the shop what key features should I be looking for? Durability, memory and speed being my main concerns. Budget of 500 pounds.

you're not going to get a good laptop for 500 pounds. Maybe a netbook.

You need to atleast double your budget then you can buy a Mac

Good topic

I'm in the same predicament, except my laptop is not old, it's fairly new actually , and just because the warranty is wrapping up, I'm experiencing so much problems with it and it will cost me big, the good thing that came out of it is, I will never buy an HP again, the battery life sucks beyond believe.

I was seriously considering buying a MAC, but I was told it's too expensive to repair and I must buy a warranty, I can't afford that

For that price range you could get Intel Core i5 or i3 with 4gb ram memory, I think thats a good starting point, fast processor, good memory, now you can just look at all the laptops with the right battery durability that you want. If you are going to the normal retailers I would recommend Comet their prices are decent, I used to work their while I was a student.

Other things that would be good to look at are graphics card (preferably dedicated graphics) and big hard drive.

I think it's senseless to spend thousands on a device that will be obsolete within a 2 years.
Technologies are developing faster than the normal person can keep up. Processing power will upgrade every 3 months, very soon. The question most people need to ask is, how will these massively powerful devices be powered? Battery cells are having trouble keeping up with the development, I think. Within the next 5 years, it'll be amazing how fast things have changed with devices.

Thank you guys

Why do laptops get slow after a while? Is there something you can do to prevent it or is it inevitable? I am starting to think the battery thing is just luck because there a Toshiba at home that will go off the minute you take it out of the socket.

Ciyaal what software? I am the most tech inept person. Microsoft office, explorer maybe DivX for movies and that's about it. Oh Java, Adobe and probably just whatever other basic stuff out there. Is there something I should be watching out for?

Can I delete the stuff that are taking up the high memory on that list or would that be a bad idea?
