Any computer geeks here?( needs advice)

And I don't mean that as an insult.

So I finally saved enough money to buy my own computer but I have no Idea where to start

There are just so many options.At first I considerd going to the store and just asking but a friend warned me that electronic salespeople can be just as shady as car dealers.

What should I look for?

note: I used the computer alot when I had my own. Whats the best for high valume usage?

buy one of the latest HP pc's

hp pcs are nice but im thinking more along the lines of a notebook/laptop. I don't want to have a bulky computer in my small room plus I would like something to carry with me when I travel. Cafés are all right but I want some thing of my own.
