Gatspy wrote:Haddad well honestly when it comes the those options it would depend on the system ur running dude. Assuming that its just a home network we're talking about,

-When it comes the encryption i'd say use WPA or WPA2, they more secure than WEP and they're password based. But some of the old XP systems with SP1 can only take WEP.
-sxb u shouldn't need to MAC filtering at all if ur network is secured.
-Having ur SSID enabled would be better so that all systems on ur network are able to find the network automatically, otherwise u will have to manually configure it on each system. again u should have no worries when u have ur encryptions enabled.
-There is no need to go crazy with the passphrase, just make sure its not too short. 8 characters or more maybe.
-NAT firewall is another one that u shouldn't need bro, unless ur using Azureus/Vuze as a torrent client.
-There are enough wifi monitoring softwares on the internet, ManageEngine WiFi Manager is the only one I can think of right now.
-u should be able to use it for everything, providing u have a secure network and firewalls on ur systems.
Is a standard router sufficient or a router that also functions as repeater/bridge, etc preferable? Are you familiar with dd-wrt?

Care to share with your experience/tips on how you secure it? Thanks.

Haddad if this is just ur home network, then a standard router is good enough. No sxb i'm not familiar with dd-wrt.

Ismahan     . R u telling me ur all exited stealing ur own service, ur bill will not say wireless on it. Don't tell me its not secured cause someone else could be laughing their asses off using ur network. I'd say to call ur ISP and get that thing secured walaal.

Cutie the days of u bullying me around r over. I'm no longer that dude with the retainer and massive glasses. I know ppl now days, i know ppl who know some ppl that happened to know ppl that can ban u. so if i were u, i'd let me eat whatever i want.

Ismahan,

You would need to find a way to encrypt the information You send out via internet because theoretically the person who owns the wireless network You're leaching off of can use a packet analyzer that will intercept the data You send out over the net. If this data is encrypted obviously it will be of no use to Him. The connection is called "Insecured wireless connection" for a reason. Btw ever considered bundled cable/phone/internet services and is that offered in MN (Don't mean that as an insult). There usually pretty cheap and You even get free long distance calling to Canada.
