Is a standard router sufficient or a router that also functions as repeater/bridge, etc preferable? Are you familiar with dd-wrt?Gatspy wrote:Haddad well honestly when it comes the those options it would depend on the system ur running dude. Assuming that its just a home network we're talking about,
-When it comes the encryption i'd say use WPA or WPA2, they more secure than WEP and they're password based. But some of the old XP systems with SP1 can only take WEP.
-sxb u shouldn't need to MAC filtering at all if ur network is secured.
-Having ur SSID enabled would be better so that all systems on ur network are able to find the network automatically, otherwise u will have to manually configure it on each system. again u should have no worries when u have ur encryptions enabled.
-There is no need to go crazy with the passphrase, just make sure its not too short. 8 characters or more maybe.
-NAT firewall is another one that u shouldn't need bro, unless ur using Azureus/Vuze as a torrent client.
-There are enough wifi monitoring softwares on the internet, ManageEngine WiFi Manager is the only one I can think of right now.
-u should be able to use it for everything, providing u have a secure network and firewalls on ur systems.
Care to share with your experience/tips on how you secure it? Thanks.Ismahan123 wrote:LOL this calls for some investigation b/c I get free wireless at home.
