The Noor Phenomenon (Turkish Soap Opera)

Postby Ahmed-Gurey » Fri Oct 17, 2008 11:30 pm

The Turkish TV Soap Opera is very much liked in the Arab World that it resulted in the break up of many families. Why do Arab girls fantasise the leading character of this show. One woman was reported to have said that all she wanted was to be the wife of Muhannad, the leading character, and die afterwards. The talk of this Turkish show in Arab Forums and Chatrooms, topics raised mostly by Arab women dedicated to this soap opera Noor are so out of control.

What is the secret here. Is it the romantic side of the show? "What led to their utter fascination is what differentiates it from their ordinary lives -- the romance within the marriage, the open, honest communication between husband and wife" writes the popular magazine : The Middle East.

I think they have the same problems we Somalis have. Our women who are probably not strong enough to withstand the fantasies of the TV shows puts a heavy burden on struggling families and good-intentioned men who desire the company of their women but can't due to some constraints.
