Genealogy Of Somalis; Will the real Somalis please stand?!

I just finished reading article published in Journal of Social Identities, July 2006 by Virginia Luling Author-Anthropologist titled - Genealogy as Theory, Genealogy as Tool: Aspects of Somali 'Clanship'. The author points out the games Darod, Hawiye, Dir and the rahanweyn Play. And the made up crap people happily take as a fact i.e. Arab genealogy.

This is attempt to create a little discussion between the people claiming to be Somalis (Darod,Hawiye, Dir, Rahanweyn and So on). Many of you already know Somali elders manipulate and create names and new alliance. So, the questions is - Who's the real Somali? And who's the Somalitazed-Somali?

Somalis = Hawiye and Dir? Darod, Digil , Rahanweyn and others Somalitazed people/ Arabs?!

Traditionally, The name Somali belongs to the Irir-Somale (Vin: Somali Hawiye and Dir), and Elders from the clans that claim to be "Arabs" i.e. Darod, Isaq, Tunnis, and all the Qashins - say "Our Mother is Hawiye" Or "Our Mother is Dir"/ "Doobira Dir Aa nadhashay" / " Xalimo Hawiye Aa nadhashay -Abtiyal Aad so tihiin Ee nadaaya" And so on - in Order to claim the Somali name.

On the other hand, the Hawiyes and Dirs elders claim "Doobira waa naagtii Axmed" and "Kii Nabiga wax ka xaday waxbo Ii ma galin." The first quote Literally means "Doonbira is the wife of ahmed" referring to ahmed gurey And in fact, the name of ahmed gurey wife is donbira. And this questions the origin of the Daarood Clan. In 1975, Mohamed siad barre claimed "Daarood waa Aabaha Soomaaliyeed" And the Somali Revolutionary Council claimed the word "Somali" means "Soomaal." but If you divide any Somali/Non-Somali word you will get a new words i.e. Qabiil = Qab + iil. So, the question is - who's the real Somali?

1. Boon marehan can't even agree on any thing. but, the sub-clan that loves to ally themselves to mudulood is rer diini and this sub-clan of the boon wagardha called Reer Gadiid. Traditionally, BOONS seek the help of Mudulood and Hawadle. Because marehan always gets bully by the Daarood Hartis Jaajis, Habar Gidir and even the Ajuran in Qalaafo show them no mercy. It isn't Irir-Samaale, it's Irir Samaale, as in Irir, son of Samaale. Samaale has a father as well, Hiil.
Many clans are descended from Samaale but not Irir, such as Xawadle and Saransoor.
Digil and Mirifle genealogies in turn all end at Digil Diinsame Umur Sabe, and Sabe has a father as well, the same one, Hiil.

According to some rather dubious genealogies, Hiil is a descendant of Aqil ibn Abu Talib, but this is a bridge too far for me to accept.

I personally do not see it as being impossible that various clans in Somalia have Arabian origins, but as for Samaale, they are not Oromo.

I have recently determined that the Oromo nation is only about 750 years old, and that they cannot be the ancestor of Somalis. Hadiya are about the same age as Somalis in terms of generations, and there could be a connection there, or there may not.

Before 1000 C.E. the history of the whole horn of Africa is very, very murky.

I do sincerely believe the Hawiyes are the real somalis. By virtue of the origin of the word 'somali' As Irir- Somale or as James puts it...... "Saamale". The Daroods and Isaaq are also part somali by virtue of their reer abtii. (Doombiro and Dir) This explains the contemporary physical features of the full somalis & half cast somalis today. While Daroods & Isaaq have typical Co-caisian aka arab physical features, hawiyes tend to have less of these featurs by virtue of genetical predispostion,...such features of the Hawiye are typical to the real pure african race -- madoow badaan, nappy hair, nose size etc etc--- This is purely contemporary genetics deductions and reasonings. 8)
