Early Somalis do u mean Somalis that just got independence form the colonial powers.
1960 till 1970 one people one nation working together. Ummad walala wada walala alay lahe he leehey eebow mahad ada leh. Baxsan song
Development was good a new nation was born the people where active . somalis used to identify them self’s more as Somalis . rather then tribes.
Politically they where very advanced then other African nations.

I believe with dawladii kacaanka they were two phases: the first phase from 69-77 and the second phase from 77-90
Waalidkey waxyaaba badan oo fiican ayey ka sheegi jireen ka hor 77kii laakin wixii ka dambeeyey waqtigaa waad iska ogtihiin.

khalid ali

i agree Somalis were more nationalist during that period, but as expected it faded away after the first few years of independence.. mainly because the hype of loosing the "gaalos" was over and it gradually became more obvious that the policies did not change to a noticable extend, and Somalis had yet to enjoy basic rights such as Education, health care etc not to mention the previlidge of living in the capital.

this did not cause chaos since the nation was still mainly nomadic, uneducated and most importantly unaware of the politics.... come on son, we were divided by the colonist in terms of Qabiil and the independence did not really change anything. and in return the new government got a stable state, frozen, in the sense that it was not moving forward or backwards, but INDEED being left behind by the rest of the world
I believe with dawladii kacaanka they were two phases: the first phase from 69-77 and the second phase from 77-90
Waalidkey waxyaaba badan oo fiican ayey ka sheegi jireen ka hor 77kii laakin wixii ka dambeeyey waqtigaa waad iska ogtihiin.
can you elaborate on that whiles keeping the discussion constructive ?

The first phase everybody was behind the govt there was real progress, there was one story told to me that women used to complain about inequality so Siyad barre said to them if you want to be treated equally with men work the jobs they do. So the women worked as kooli and other labour jobs in the end it was too hard for them.
Whereas the second phase was directly after the war, the country had low morale at that point and to top it off there were many cases of corruption going on. There was also a stricter view of the local police force where you could be arrested for speaking ill of the regime and there's what came after that obviously but why would you need me to bring that up again, when it's been mentioned millions of times.

let me remind you, that this is a topic aiming at comparing the 3 different eras  so you prefer the effort of Present Somalis ?

i take it that you do not support a pan-Somalia but a disintegrated people preliminary to a Neo-colonised people. because that is exactly what current Somalis represent.

in that case, you obviously also support the same insubordinate groups that paved the way to todays Somalia, their implacable strategy of attacking a vulnerable country that just returned from a war with NATO and Soviet.

as for corruption, Come on son, your from SOMALILAND

the Somalis from 1970-1990 may have faced minor goverment corruption just like any other nation, but the Somalis of 1990-2010 faces social corruption to the highest degree, along with all other sorts.

By far the dictatorship's reign was best time for somalia in the 20th century, all somalis agree to this. There were ofcours problems with that govt such as nepotism, killing culuma but the country was independent from amxaaro influence.
Weither it was islamic govt or dowlad rida ,is also different topic.

Waalidkey waxyaaba badan oo fiican ayey ka sheegi jireen ka hor 77kii laakin wixii ka dambeeyey waqtigaa waad iska ogtihiin.

Thats where some people get confused.

From 1969-1977 the military regime initiated progressive development and had popular support. The military regime its composition also mirrored the unity of the Somali people, and its campaign against clannism and nepotism had wide support amongst the Somali people.

From 1978-1991, clannist people from Gedo/Galgaduud turned the whole government into a cash cow to feed their family members. The landcruiser era started, and Somalia became a neo-colonial state that was depended on IMF/World Bank. Dictator Barre used every little money and aid that poured into the country to strenghten his dictatorial grip on the country and his clan perceived the whole government as their property. The dictator lost it when he unleashed the Somali National Army to massacre Somali civilians in Northwestern (Hargaisa-Berbera-Burco), Northeastern ( Bari), Central (Mudug) and Southern Somalia (Banadir)..that legacy is what we still remember..

So, if one comes to me and praises the first period 1969-1977 I would agree with him. But those who grew fat on the money just because they happened to be from the same clan as the dictator would glorify his regime even till the last day he spent in Mogadishu: 25 Jan 1991. To those people: The dictator has ruined everything he built during 1969-1977 and he will be mostly remembered for his dictatorial grip on our nation and eventually his humiliating exile from Somalia.

A scientific study must be conducted to find out why the most learned of the Hutus are also the dumbest and least original.
