Marriages before and after the colonization

Postby abdalla11 » Thu Nov 11, 2010 12:14 pm

This topic is for the pure breds
I am the same subclan for two generations as well as on my mom sides. But if i go further on my abtirsi ( before the colonization) i can see the immediate change: non of my great granddads married from their own subclan. My paternal Greatgranddad married a marehan, My maternal Greatgranddad married an Ogadeen-Makahiil and my other Maternal great granddad married a Leelkasse.
My maternal grandmother(half MJ half leelkasse) even had a Ogadeen halfbrothers

So did the colonization caused marriages between subclans because they were isolated?

I am interested to see your abtirsi and if there's an immediate change before and after the colonization

Opposite for me. Before colonization I had Ogaden and Habar Gidir kin on either side of the family, after colonization both sides of my family started marrying their own lineages.

Well that's what i mean, before the colonization people married other clans, after the colonization clans married their own lineages

I think if your majerteen you will find it hard to marry anyone else but Majerteen because nobody wants to be associated with one.

I did have various Isaaq subclans in my family tree before the colonisation. But as you said, it did change afterwards. My mum married someone in her own subclan.

Mixing amongst Somalis is good. Only way this silly tribalism will go away.

My abti who is an Ogaden married a Majerteen lady, had caruur with her, and then secretly behind her back married another MJ and had kids with her too. He did strike a 3rd time as well, and knocked up another MJ lady.

The Osman Mahmoud community in Norway wasnt very happy

Somalia must be the only Sub-Saharan country who have ONE ethnic make-up. Many of the African civil conflicts are about ethnic hatred, but with us is tribalism and power struggle.

No difference before or after to be honest. Maybe various different issaq sub clans. But mainly either Issaq or Gurgure, except for maybe a few grandmothers who were dulbahante or gadabursi.

People marry who ever is around eachother no surprise, if there were 10 white men in a village of somalis, 10 of our women would be married to them vice versa.
