You don't have to hate on MSB, but praising him like the way you did is pretty dumb and insensitive. Control your emotions if you wanna be taken seriously as a man.

he just told the truth ..its not *praising*

Not you, but am sure there was a comment about someone blaming him for the famine.

Wallahi if Somalis had 1/5 the pragmatism of Biko/934 we would have never let our country go down the gutter even after Siad was overthrown. Noolow Biko and serve an inspiration to us all.

Cinque what exactly are you talking about? 934 seems to be the anti-emotion. You are the one who twice came back to clutch on his shirtsleeves because you don't like Siad based on tribal reasons while Biko, who has said he suffered under the hands of the former regime, has risen above emotion to look purely based on pragmatism. I haven't seen a more apt description of irony then you labeling the guy with "emotions".

What are you ninyahow, the presidential hagiographer? I've got your number.

Even so, there's enough material there to justify the interest of the disinterested.

If we are going to use the phrase Jaale, then we must use the full name. Jaale Afweyne!
I really don't understand why people like to go to the grave and dig up Afweyne? He's dead. He's ancient history. Let's leave what has been left in the dustbin of history in the past.
It is quite a pity though, in 2011 we still have amongst us people who can't let the past go and are dwelling on the time when fawning over Afweyne was worth something.

If there was no Jalle Siyaad, there would have been no Abdullahi Yusuf, Abdirahman Tuur, and General Caydiid. To praise Jalle Siyaad as the Messiah is narrowed minded and speaks volumes about his legacy. The man treated the country like his own personal property, and the people as children who could not think of themselves.

The worse legacy of Siyaad is that he implanted the notion that government belongs to the President and his associates and that at being a President means being a dictator & being a member of the President's family means getting access to the nation's wealth. He personalized government to being only him.

That being said, the man did some very progressive things and at the same time did some very backward things. His legacy if he had left in 1985 would have been that of an elderly statesman who brought his nation into a more prosperous state. But with all dictators, he did not know when to quit.

Kudos to those who set up the website. It is another reference point about Somalia.

I don't miss Siyaad Barre at all. I do miss the institutions of a strong central government.

Salah,

Even in 1985, he would have been able to retire safely and in respect.

Siyad barre didnt care too much for money but those who were close to him abused their power. If he kept them in check and retired couple of years before he would have been remembered by all somalis as the father of Somalia. What was the name of the guy close to him who left bunch of people in back of truck for them to die?

if there was a credible oppistion then he should have left... but those who wanted him out where hynas power hungry and greedy look at what happened after he left? sxb the country was destroyed.

there was only one man who could replace siyad berra Aun, that man was cigaal AUN but siyad barre knew that south somalia would never accept him as a president. cigal was the perfect leader to replace siyad berra. but look at what USC done to cigaal they threw him out of the picture and named ali mahdi as president the man who sold the somali coast to italian mafia to dump illigal chemicals.

Somalis are always extreme on either side. either siyad barre was the devil himself or he was and angel according to who you ask. The truth is usualy in the middle. No doubt the man had some good qualties. He was a wadani for sure and until the 80s under his regime a lot of things were accomplished. But in the 80s things started to change. He should have controlled those in his ranks. HIs views on the deen were dangerous but than again that was the norm for muslim leaders in that period of time. The killing of those wadaads was one of the worst crimes ever committed by his regimes. The bombing of the north and most importantly his refusal to step down. He and all those who support him to this day should have known that no man can rule forever, sooner or later the people will over throw you and when that happens those close to the leader usually get it the worse.

What that said no leader has filled his position till this day.
