well

I'm sure many of you have heard of this man's spiritual works, and poetic work
For those of you who don't know of Rumi or of the Sufi path you can check out some abbreviated poems and history here> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rumi
Rumi believed that woman were the most perfect example of God’s creative power on
rumi also inspired many poets through out history.

Rumi's importance is considered to transcend national and ethnic borders. His poems have been widely translated into many of the world's languages and transposed into various formats. In 2007, he was described as the "most popular poet in America."

Rumi's works are written in the New Persian language and his Mathnawi remains one of the purest literary glories of Persia, and one of the crowning glories of the Persian language.

Share some of your personal experiences with his words,
or post a poem that you enjoy

my favorite are :
-The mystic dances in the sun,
hearing music others don't.
'Insanity,' they say, those others.

If so, it's a very gentle,
nourishing sort."
~Rumi

Suffering is Optional
The wound is the place where the Light enters you. ~Rumi

Desire to Be What You Are & Do What You Need To Do
"Everyone has been made for some particular work, and the desire for that work has been put in every heart" - - Rumi

“Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.”
— Rumi

wherever you are be the soul of that place - rumi

Raise your words, not voice. It is rain that grows flowers, not thunder.”
— Rumi

By Allah!
I long to escape the prison of my ego
and lose myself
in the mountains and the desert.”
— Rumi

“Silence is the language of God, all else is poor translation.”
— Rumi

“My soul is from elsewhere, I’m sure of that, and I intend to end up there.”
— Rumi
and many more other quotes i can go on and on.

Don't really care about his sect affiliation, but his poetry, that is the staff I love.

My heart is so small it's almost invisible
How can you place such a big sorrow in it?
"Look" he answered, "your eyes are even smaller,
yet they behold the world."

-Rumi

“The minute I heard my first love story,
I started looking for you, not knowing
how blind that was.
Lovers don't finally meet somewhere.
They're in each other all along.”

Rumi

If you are eager to be nothing
before you know who you are,
you rob yourself of your true being.
Until you understand nothingness
you will never know true Faith.”

lovely , but you should know the whirling dervishes have nothing to do with Sayyid Rumi,
the common story is that it was started by his son, but the reality is that it was formed by his followers around the time of his grandson, more than 50+ years after his death.

surprisingly he was a regular hanafi scholar, and judge and religious teacher.
with an unusual gift and a beautiful spirit.
