Edmonton Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a man who is believed to have threatened an Edmonton Transit Peace Officer with a gun on Tuesday.
Police said Abdullahi Mohamoud, 23, of Mississauga, was last seen on Jan. 1 – and allegedly threatened the transit officer when another male was arrested for trespassing at Churchill Station.
“The suspect is alleged to have produced a handgun, and demanded his friend be released,” Staff Sgt. Malcolm Allan said in a press release Thursday. “The peace officers, who don’t carry firearms, disengaged.”
The two suspects immediately fled the scene – and the other male was arrested by officers within five hours of the original arrest, but the other male who produced the gun and helped in the escape is still at large.
“This is a very dangerous and violent person who needs to be taken off the streets as soon as possible,” Staff Sgt. Allan said.
Police said Mohamoud is wanted for a number of charges, including uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, rescue or permit escape and three counts of breach of recognizance.
He’s also wanted on a number of Canada-wide warrants for criminal negligence causing death for a fatal hit-and-run in Ontario in 2011, where it’s alleged the dragged a gas station attendant to his death, and for aggravated sexual assault for an incident in Edmonton in 2008.
Mohamoud is described as:
188 cm (6’2”) tall
72 kg (159 lbs)
He was last seen wearing a white shirt over a dark hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and black shoes.
Police consider the suspect to be armed and dangerous, and should not be approached.
Anyone with information on Mohamoud’s whereabouts is asked to contact 911.
