This is a sensitive issue. I work with with people from South America, and I asked them this question and there was a hestiation, because they know whatever they consider themselves, in the US they are no seen as 'white'. The concept of whiteness has been appropriated by Anglo Saxons, even Italians, Portueges and Spaniards barely passed..
Another colleague who is from Spain resents to be considered 'hispanid' or 'latino' and make sure people know that she is European who speaks proper Spanish.

Thug, I think race is a sensitive issue because it was europeans who designed these categories. White and black etc are pretty vague terms because who is it that someone from ireland and someone from the baltics share the same classification. Look at these examples:

WHITE

Basically everyone from europe or european ancestry = Celts; Nords; gallics; germanics; slavs; iberians; romanians etc

BLACK

Basically sub-saharan africa + aborigines/papua new guineans - far too vast for people to be categorized together

ASIAN

By far the most stupidest category - asian is a native of the continent, where you have arabs, iranian, indians, chinese, mongols, indonesians. Do you mean to tell me all these people are under the same category.

NATIVE AMERICANS

Basically everyone from north central and southern america - very stupid because these people were not related - you have the mayans, the azteca people, the incas of peru, the amazonas, the varies northern tribes like lakota, algonquin, apache, the inuits etc


Basically the world is too large to categorise people into so few groups. I think that people should be classified into smaller regional groups e.g. us somalis are related to those tribes that live around us therefore cushitics.

In this case those interviewed in the video should have replied we don't know because our ancestors are a mix of iberian spanish and aztecs/mayans so now they are a new classification.
