Falis Abdi (from Waayaha Cusub) singing in Maay?

Postby Twist » Sat Jun 29, 2013 9:14 am

:ohhh:

I lived a few years in Baay in the beginning of the civil-war and I still couldn't learn Maay. She's talented, well unless she grew up somewhere in that region.

Tush, that's coz that's the easily understood version since a highly experienced pro is singing it.

But still if this was her first take on Maay it's very impressive, I think.

Nah. I was referring to Samatar, the link you posted. Since when is Falis highly experienced and more pro than Samatar?

Twist I've met plenty reer kismayo who speak some what close to Maay, I believe Falis is from kismaayo. Nonetheless her maay is not too bad.

She has a great voice and I like the beat. It's a shame I don't know what the hell she's singing about though.

Tush, I don't think there is anyone who can compete with Samatar in Maay, not even Maay natives.

Rabsho, IKR? :meles: The thing is, none of my brothers spoke it so I blame them. lol (I think it's coz they were grown men and couldn't learn a new dialect, may be? Don't know). But I can understand it quiet well and can also engage in some basic convo in Maay, though I make mistakes due to lack of confidence. Languages and dialects are easy to pick up in young age.

Turbulance, early in the 90's in Dinsor.

Lil, yeah, her voice and the beat are great and I also had difficulty to understand most of the lyrics too. No one can pull it like Samatar after all.

:ehh: I don't like Somali music that much, unless we are talking about classics, this is the first maymay song I have heard actually, it wasn't that bad.
