Giving someone the benefit of the doubt - has it ever worked out for you?
We've all noticed things about people that have throw up warning signs. Be it something they've done, said or just a vibe you get when you're around them. When you experience that, you're faced with the choice; trust your instincts and cut your losses before any real damage is done or give them the benefit of the doubt because hey, innocent till proven guilty right?
So then have you ever given someone the benefit of the doubt and then seen that you were right in doing so?
Or do you always end up kicking yourself?

Always the benefit of the doubt

Only once I was proven right, in most cases left myself kicking but I still continue to give the faa'ido walaa shaki'

I trust my instincts and make decisions. I hate to regret; there was a time when I was very naive and I trusted people. As I grew older, I don't trust anyone but my instinct.

No one is perfect and if you look for faults you will find them
However with some people it's a straight-up don't do it. When your instincts shout at you that the person is no good....and you've already seen the cracks....
The older I get the more inclined I am to view "benefit of the doubt" as a form of denial

I always pay attention to the signs. I don't like shady people. If someone gives me negative signs I cut them off completely.

I like to give benefit of doubt... and I do most of the time. I'd like to think I'm wired to see the good in everyone, plus it's gratifying to know there will be no regrets on my end even if I'm wronged.
That being said, this is not a perfect world so I have to weigh the situation and consider the risks. If the stakes are high, I'm sorry I have no room for error.

I can be naive and like to see the best in people. But the only time I regret not listening to my guts was when I accepted professional help from a brother-I gave him the benefit of the doubt and I told myself ''he wants Somalis to succeed in this country''. I dunno know where I got that from

I like to trust my judgement but I know that many people including myself are wrong about "first impressions." I've learned never to assume that agreeableness is synonymous with kindness. It is not. And that just because we have an unsavory experience with someone, that reminds us of someone else, does not mean we should take it out on them. Sometimes we're totally off base. Other times we could be spot on though. It's hit or miss.

My motto is, it's better to be safe than sorry, so no I don't give the benefit of the doubt.

I think u r full of yourself. That's all. U r not genuine about your motives for giving the person a benefit of doubt. I think you were getting some sort of benefit from the said person, and maybe that benefit ended. Now, u r venting and kinda telling us a story we cant ---cough---excuse me-- a story I cannot Gallup!

It never works for me as I never give the benefit of the doubt.
