They were slaves, mostly captured from raids in the areas now known as Uganda and Kenya. Many of the slaves were sold to the Arabs, but some were kept in modern Somalia and worked there. The Somalis did not tend to breed with them very much, and so they have maintained their racial lines quite a bit, and in some cases have maintained some linguistic traits from their points of origin as well. Many, although not most, are animist.

Somali Bantus were natives in the region before the onslaught of the Oromos who moved into the southern regions of Somalias several centuries ago. The Oromo in turn were pushed out by a n offshoot that are now known as the Somali.

Somali bantu are freed hutu slaves that didn't have the luxury to mix with us somalis from a good stock. This is why the hawiye look part bantu, their ancestors were bantu slaves from utanga Laughing
