Population wise hawiye is third largest tribe. Hawiye more then 1 million are dead from the war. Darood and isaaq haven't had those number of casulties. Secondly ogaden is 9 million by itself, considering ogaden in ethiopia, kenya, and somalia. 9 million ogadens, harti is about 3 million there is 11 million darods just in the horn region. I haven't included mareexan and leelkase and all those other tribes.

Hawiye wouldn't be more then 5 million because southern regions they live in is heavily shared by darod and rahan weyne. Hawiye is 60% only of the south and that is being generous. The rest would be divided by darod, rahanweyn, and smaller tribes.

So hawiye in reality is third largest tribe darod being no 1 followed by isaaq and then hawiye.

I can provide evidence for my research regarding population on regions and tribes to settle this. And Secondly we can take a poll on snet and see who is truly the largest tribe if you dare want to go there.

I am not to fuzzed by who is largest tribe and who is not because it is not quantity that counts but quality. U can have 1 billion chinese who live on a dollar a day or u can be 15 million jews and constitute 50% of billionaires of the world. But then again i don't expect much intelligence from this region called "bananadir" oops i mean "banadir" monkeys and hawiye can't tell the difference sometimes. My bad...

Okay Salaamu alikum all. :rose:

In conclusion, is it fair to say that the Southern Somali regions would have more people in it, rather than the Northern regions? Although some of the Northern regions are bigger in terms of land mass but they dont necessarily have more people in them.

What are your views?

:som:
I would think so. Simply because ppl in the south tend to be less nomadic and more settled due to agriculture and commerce, whereas ppl in central and northern Somalia traditionally lead a more nomadic lifestyle and thus the land in those areas were sparsely populated. Nowadays, we have major cities springing up in the North, it would be interesting to conduct an official comparisons of population density between the south and north. I would still think the South would win in that arena but the question is by how much.

There was a mass migration of people from the north and central regions to the south that started in the 1960s and there were towns in the south, especially in Shabeelloyinka where I used to live, where the entire population consisted of people from the northern and central parts of Somalia. That mass migration has been reversed by the war and the instability in the South and nowadays people are actually migrating to the north and central regions to cities like Bossasso, Hargaisa and Galkacyo. Little towns in Shabeeloyinka that were overpopulated back in the day are nearly empty these days.
