Xiis abandoned - Gov step-up or step-aside

Postby LiquidHYDROGEN » Tue Dec 03, 2013 7:27 am

Somaliland: Hiss Port Faces Isolation and Sand Induced Extinction

WTF is up with these people? These are the same people flooding Hargeisa to chew qaat and not work. Why isn't the government doing something about the lack of opportunities and jobs in other towns. I would much rather live and work in Xiis than Hargeisa. This is evidently a problem with the government not incentivising living outside of Hargeisa. If all the development and work is only inside the capital city, then it's obvious that people from other parts of the country are going to pick-up and leave their hometowns in search of what the perceive as a better life in the capital.

Yeah but it's not just Xiis, it's other towns like Erigabo, Berbera, Gabiley, Maydh etc. Hargeisa can't cope with these people, add to that walaweyn refs, and xabashi migrants who keep sneeking in. There should be a mass recolonisation programme like the Americans did with the Wild west. Send all the layabouts, homeless etc. and build homes from the available raw materials as well as giving them autonomy in governing and finance.

Small steps. I think the problem is with globalization; movement of labour and capital. Urbanization is a pre-cursor to industrialization. Anyway, I don't think it will get that far but however I do believe the government is aware of the disparity within SL - they're addressing it but it's difficult without the appropriate investment - that might all change with the breakthrough donations from the SLDF. One step at a time.
