United States Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs: Somaliland does have a legal argument

Postby Ben Dover » Fri Dec 21, 2018 8:38 pm

Q- Somaliland has been peaceful and democratic for 27 years, why hasn't the United States engaged Somaliland in a more meaningful way?

A- United States Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Tibor Nagy:
Somaliland does have a legal argument it makes, of course that has to be teated in the appropriate fora. The United States normally when it comes to recognising states in Africa will consult with the African Union. The integrity of the state of Somalia is an important precept for the African Union, so, the United States of America is dealing with the government in Mogadishu. We are doing our best to strengthen that government both in its economic development but also in the security environment. So, for the time being, the US policy is to deal with Mogadishu, to work with the government in Mogadishu to strengthen that part of the Horn of Africa.

Somaliland should go back to lobbying the African Union. It should get it to actually act on its fact-finding mission of 2005. The African Union mission reported that Somaliland’s case is a unique one, which should be judged “from an objective historical viewpoint and a moral angle vis-à-vis the aspirations of the people”. The mission recommended that the African Union should “find a special method for dealing with Somaliland” and confirmed that Somaliland’s status was “not linked to the notion of opening a Pandora’s Box” in Africa.

That's their way of kindly telling you to fock off there's only one Somalia. African Union will never call Hargeisa let alone invite it to the HQ.

That's why they have restored their embassy and coughed up $900 million INVESTMENT package. Now tell us how much came your way?
The United States re-established permanent diplomatic presence in Mogadishu, Somalia on December 2, 2018. USAID also re-established presence. To create a better tomorrow for the people of Somalia, the United States is committed to providing more than $900 million in critical investment. The United States is meeting life-saving humanitarian assistance needs; expanding education and healthcare; building institutions, good governance, and justice; creating jobs and advancing economic development; and providing stabilization and security for the people of Somalia.

Summary:

U.S. Humanitarian Assistance to Somalia

$420 million in life-saving humanitarian assistance to Somalia this year.

Job Creation

Creating more than 1,600 full-time, private sector jobs in the last 3 years. (In the dairy sector alone, our support created nearly 500 full-time and 650 seasonal jobs. We helped stop Irmaan Dairy from closing down; it now produces over 3,500 liters of milk daily.)

The United States is looking at airport and port upgrades to create trade and jobs.

Debt Relief

Consideration of debt relief to attract development to Somalia.

Education

Supporting secondary education for 160,000 youth in Somalia and 20,000 primary school children (45%) girls.

Governance and Stabilization

$110 million to help establish good governance, conflict resolution, and judicial reform.
The Americans probably tell the African Union not to entertain small run away tribal projects. There would be thousands across Africa including dozens inside Somaliland itself.

We are legally right, morally good and democratically thriving. All we need is to militarily be very strong when ever we get stronger we can effectively maintain our internal security and intimidate the enemies . Fear brings respect . And that reputation brings more friends and investment. If you are too weak internally and external no one is respecting you not even your own peaple.

Somaliland should just take its case to the international court of justice, legal case is on our side.

Also the USA stated their foreign policy is to support Mogadishu for now. However I believe the US foreign policy is from the 70s and needs a lot of changes, the USA also knows this.
Both Russia and China have better foreign policy than the USA.
USA is in panic mode at the moment, China is the main player in Africa. America is just trying to play catch up, although it’s a bit too late. Russia is also flexing its muscles in the Middle East. I believe the US would change course soon.

The USA is fighting to keep its economic dominance in the world but this is going to be China and Russia and India as one block the bricks the countries. Even mbs
sacuudi Arabia is not an ally of the USA persay but It's working on it Saudi Arabia can change alliances they took out khashoesi and there is nothing the U.S. can do
US will lose Africa as a whole to china in terms of investment and all of that. But The USA lost in crimia it lost in Syria.
