4 billion barrels is the estimated reserves in the basin, 300 million barrels alludes to the immediate export quantity anticipated, the figures refer to completely different things. The first number is a geological figure, the second is a business figure.

Yeah, I've heard estimates of both 18.2 and 19.9 billion barrels in the two blocks from the exploration companies. I believe their estimates and targets are based in reality. Everyone from the World Bank to American intelligence analysts have stated at different periods during the civil war that Somalia certainly has oil judging from the geological characteristics of the land. If Somalia had no hydrocarbon potential, you would not be hearing of major firms doing exploration in the 80s, you'd be seeing small explorers like the current teams in PL doing the first steps as is typical of energy exploration elsewhere in the world (only reason the little guys are gambling first in PL today is because of the civil war drawbacks).

mabruk if all this pans out.

300 million barrels immedietly is not bad, thats like 100,000 bpd to 200,000 bpd for upto 5 to 10 years.

thats pretty good moola if you ask me...
standard share of profits is 25 to 40% of profits after tax..

so we are looking at $1 Billion a year MINIMUM.

hopefully some of the crumbs will trickle down to the people..
and hopefully farole and co will be more like Suharto than Mobuto..
