Ethiopians along with TFG and ASWJ captured Luuq.

In other parts Ethiopians and ASWJ are expected to attack Ceel Buur and Beledweyn.

Could this be the beginning of the end for Al Shabaab?

Hardly anything change in Bardheere in the last 3 centuries.

The Bardheere Jihad of 2011 between Ahlu Sunnah and Shabaab isn't so much different then the bardheere jihad of 1843.

Bardheere Jihad of 1843

The Baardheere Jihad was between the Baardheere Jamaaca (religious settlement) and the Geledi Sultunate. The war was for political and religious domination of southern Somalia. Both sides had wide support and claimed religious mysticism and political control. The historical event is very well known in southern Somali history and is a world known event. The war ended with the Baardheere Jamaaca being destroyed and the city of Baardheere being burnt to the ground.

The Baardheere Jamaaca was established in 1819 on the upper Juba river. The jamaaca would end up founding the city of Baardheere. The jamaaca was founded by Sheik Ibrahim Hassan Jeberow a native of Dafeed. Sheik Ibrahim was refused to practice his reformist ways in Dafeed and relocated to Baardheere to start his reformist Islamic jamaaca. The Baardheere jamaaca started out as a small jamaaca with less than 100 believers. It steadily grew in number and influence.

Defeating Al-Shabaab on the ground isn't really tough, although I think it'll get nasty in strongholds like Baydhabo and Kismayo. The problem is handling the insurgency.

This is how I see it. When Ethiopia stepped into Somalia in 2006/07, the insurgency was equal parts Shabaab, equal parts nationalist, equal parts tribal. Today the insurgency will be 100% Shabaab. It could either be a good thing or bad thing. I think the reason Ethiopia's forays into Somalia fell apart is because they backed a Darood leader in a Hutu city, which is dangerous. This time I think the Hutu people of the south will be more pro-Ethiopia but other clans may end up fighting both the Hutus and the Ethiopians in the south. The situation right now is really unpredictable with Ethiopian incursion, at least last time it was easy to decipher.

Daybreak report from Luuq district in Gedo region in northwest of the Somali capital Mogadishu confirms that the Somali government soldiers along with their close ally Ahlu-Sunnah Waljama a moderate Islamist faction have on Monday morning taken control of the district.

“The warriors of Al-Shabab have left the town in the mid night, of course their departure came after they heard that well equipped government soldiers are coming towards them, there are some people in the district who say that there are Ethiopian troops with them, but so far I have not spotted a single Ethiopian soldiers accompanying the Somali government soldiers” said a resident in Luuq district speaking to Somaliweyn website in condition of anonymity.

The report also adds that the government soldiers have advanced towards mountains areas on the outskirts of the district called [Kureetka], and have established temporary trenches taking care of possible attack from Al-Shabab.

This will be the second district which the government soldiers have ousted Al-Shabab within the same week. The government officials who are spearheading the sweep out Al-Shabab attacks have vowed that they won’t halt the fight against Al-Shabab till they eliminate them from the country.

The government soldiers with their Ahlu-Sunnah Waljama fellows have several other times taken control of Bula-Hawo district, but have pulled out again, and yet it’s not apparent whether this will be the same or different despite the vows they made.
