I remember a few years ago when Sheikh Umal was asked who was right between the fighting parties in Somalia. The Sheikh replied by saying that he didn't know and he would advise people by staying out of Somali politics and tending to their affairs. Unfortunately, the Sheikh has not kept his promise annd he often jumps into with a range of contradictory and confusing positions. When the UWSLF surrendedred to Ethiopia and accepted their constitution he said that they were ulema who knew whatey were did. He is cosy with people who are Kenyan legislators. What is the difference between the Somali constitution which is also supported by Ulema?

The Somali culuma reject the consititions and the process in which it was established, I see no contraditions, and Sheikh Umal is just echoing what the culuma and most somalis are saying. He is a 100% right.

Who are "the ulema" sxb? Some ulema like Abdiqadir nur farah blessed the constitution in Puntland. There is no such thing as a central group of Ulema who all Somalis go back to. Every man has his ulema.And of course, there is a contradiction when one supports and give excuses to people who wear ethiopian flags around their necks and joined the ethiopian consitution.

exec, the above statement is misleading. Many ulumas are pro the constitution. One sheik, who was introduced as one of the leading culumada wayen was on VOA radio yesterday defending the constitution. He took calls from the public and answered seemingly tough questions with ease.
