Shirib wrote:Hassan Barsane who was an anticolonialist and fiught against the Italians was Gaaljecel. However most of his warriors were Jiida.

In 1923 De Vechi di Val Cismon became the new governor of Somalia by the new fascist Italian regime. De Vechi made it clear that he was out to exterminate all who had opposed his government and take over the Italian vision of “La Grande Somalia.” However the locals were well armed having access to an estimated 16,000 rifles and were not willing to comply. De Vechi made his first goal to collect all the firearms from the locals especially those in the inter-riverine regions. In March of 1924 Sheik Hassan Barsane one of the leaders of the Shabelle valley called for a shir of the local clan elders. The delegate denounced the governors ordered and Barsane on behalf of the delegation wrote the following to the governor

In, the name of Allah the most gracious the most merciful… I have received your letter and understood its content, but must advise that we cannot obey your orders and join with you in a covenant… Your government has its laws and we have ours. We accept no law other then ours. Our law is the law of Allah and his Prophet… We are not like other people, none of us have ever enrolled in the Zaptie (colonial forces)! … If you come to our land to fight against us, we will fight you with all possible means…The world is very close to its end, only 58 years remain. We don’t want to stay in this world. It is better to die while defending our laws.

The Barsane revolt of the shabelle valley initially came with some success but crumbled after Sheik Hassan Barsane was captured by Italian forces on April 4th.

Shirib, most of his fighters and comrades were from his clan, the Barsana, not Jiidu. The Sheikh was also the leading Scholar of the Axmadiya Suufi order in Somalia at that time. Didn't you know that Gaaljecel was one of the most powerful pastoral groups in Central Somalia and the Shabeelle valley? There's a book written about the Gaaljecel which i have read. Infact, they were one of the few clans who use to own slaves. Even when the Italians tried to ban slavery, the biggest opposition came from the Gaaljecel who relied on their subjects to farm for them.

It's called "The Galjaal Barsana of central Somalia; A study of the relationship between socio-political change, inter and intra group conflict and political and social behavior" by David H Marlowe. I'm not sure if there is any copies left though.

Shirib, yeah there were many clans who owned slaves. There was a trade going on in Banaadir during the 18/19th centuries where Slaves were shipped off, some to Berbera and others to the Zanzibari sultanate which gained a lot of power later on.

No Somali clan was ever enslaved. But the Bantu and Galla tribes were subjected to domination and enslavement.

Cushite Kingdom, did you hear about the story of how the Gareen family tried to poison their grandson Cali Cusmaan, but ended up killing Faadumo Sarjecelle? Oral tradition relate the story of Cali Cusmaan's birth to the birth of Moses. A wiseman once told Boqor Ajuuraan that his kingdom would be toppled one day by Cali Cusmaan.

bro, it not story its trua that the Gareen wanted to kill abgaal cismaan it is well documented in more then 3 books.
by Enrico Cerulli "how a hawiye tribe used to live. the ajuran wanted to kill as

The mother of Hirabä was Faduma Karanle. The mother of Abgaal was Faduma Sargellä, who was an Ajuuraan. She was espoused by ‘Isman Darandollä. By him she had a son, who was called by the name ‘Ali ‘Isman. Later one went to Sargellä Garën. A learned old man went to him. He said: ‘O noble Sargellä, I saw in the books that the children of the boy born to your daughter Faduma will chase your children from the earth. I saw it in the books.’ ‘Did you see these things?’ ‘Yes, I saw them,’ he answered. ‘So be it!’ the noble Sargellä replied; and into his heart came the thought: ‘Rather than that your children, whom you have begotten, be killed, the son of your daughter might rather die!’ This came into his heart. After this he prepared two different amulets, one good and one bad. The bad one would kill the one who drank it. The good one would protect from any evil of this world. Then he went to his daughter. ‘My Faduma, I am bringing you these two amulets: this one here — and it was the good one — you drink; and the other one — and it was the bad one — give to your son ‘Ali ‘Isman!’ The girl took the two amulets; but when it came to drinking them, she made a mistake! Faduma Sargellä drank the bad one and died immediately. ‘Ali ‘Ismän drank the good one and survived. Sargellä went back to the hut and saw his daughter dead. And the boy, when he heard his grandfather arrive, ran to the side of a saddle camel and hid behind it. ‘Oh ‘Ali, oh ‘Ali! Come! I am your grandfather!’ Sargellä cried out, looking for the boy. ‘You are not my grandfather ( abkäy ), my grandfather is the camels.’ The camels ( gel ) in the language of one time were called gal . So afterwards he (‘Ali ‘Isman) had the name of Ab-gal (‘Camel-grandfather’).[13]

The tradition substantially recalls the ancient fights between the Abgaal, nomadic pastoralists who from places farther north tried to open a way to the river, and the Aguran, who dominated the region of the Middle Webi. This historical content, of course, has been adapted in popular dress with the theme, so widespread in the folklore of quite different peoples, of the prediction of the unborn child destined to drive the reigning prince from the throne.

Btw MBH just to clear things up from the last debate we had, here is the brief history of Hobyo from 1885 onwards.

Magaalada Hobyo Waa magaalada madaxda Gobolka Hobyo ee Degmada Xays, Waxayna ku Taalaa koonfurta Dowlad Goboleedka GalMudug State ee xeebta Badweynta Hindiya.

Magaca Hobyo marka uu baxay iyo sida uu u baxay midna si saxa looma yaqaan, hasayeeshe waxaa la sheegay in magacaas oo ah mid da’ weyn in loo maleynayo inu ka yimid laba ereay oo kala ah: “Hoo Biyoh” sababtoo ah magaalada dhulka xeebta ayaa biyo aad u macaan oo wax ka yar laba feet lagu gaaro. Hobyo waa marso dabiici ah oo ganacsi iyo xiriir dheer la soo lahayd dalalka kulaala Bad Weynta Hindiya iyo Khaliijka.

1885 ka hor deegaanka, sida dhulka Soomaaliya ay oga talin jireen nabadoonada-ugaasyada-malaaqyada-wabarada,ayaa waxaa nabadoonadii xiligaas ka talin jiray hobyo iyo agagaarkeeda ka mid ahaa duqowdii beesha ee xiligaas,Mohamuud Ayaanle Guuuleed, Cali Cumar, Guuleed Faarax, iyo Shiikhow Caalin.

1884 markii shirkii Baarliin Reer Yurub ay Afrika qaybsadeen, Talyaaniguna Gobollada Koonfureed uu saanyaday ayuu heshiis la galay Yuusuf Cali (Keenadiid) oo ka soo jeeday Baargal ee Bari, wuxuna Talyaanigu soo siiyay hub iyo dhaqaale farabadan oo uu ku qortay ciidamo iyo dad adoon ah oo laga keenay Afrikada Bari. Sida laga warqabo Talyaanigu dhulka Soomaaliya toos uma qabsan ee qabaailkii Soomaalida ayuu xiriir la samaystay sidaas ayuu tartiib-tartiib dhulka ku wada qabsaday.

Waxana jirtay Laba nin oo Boqortooyo sheegtay waqtigaas oo kala ahaa tii Baargaal oo uu madax ka ahaa Cusmaan iyo tii Hobyo ee reer Keenadiid in labaduba ay Dawladii Talyaaniga wakiil ka ahaayeen oo ay mushaar ka qaadan jireen Talyaaniga.

1885 aya Keenadiid oo dooni wata ka soo degay marsado Hobyo, wuxuna codsaday in loo oggolaado badeeco u wato inu meesha kaga ganacsado, isla markaasna wuxu bilaabay dhismo markii dambe isku rogoy qalcad. Si kastaba ahaatee Keenediid xeelad aan xoog ka marnayn ayu ku degay Hobyo ,isagoo markii dambana Boqor isku magacaabay.Keenadiid xukunka waa laga riday oo dawladdii Ingriska iyo Talyaaniga ayaa gartay in loo dhiibo wiilkisa Cali Yuusf kaasoo isagoo gacan ka helaya dowladdii Talyaaniga soo xukumay Hobyo ilaa 1925.

Talyaanniga marki uu talada ka qaaday Cali Yuusuf, xilka talada deegaanka wuxuu ku wareejiyay Nabadoonnada kala ahaa: Ducaale Kaahiye, Jaamac Seed ,Nuur Cali Cumar,Maxamuud Degel, Xaashi Cilmi Guuleed, Cabdille Gorod, Maxamed Cabdi Dheere, Beered Kulan , Xasan Cilmi Fagaas iyo rag kale oo isugu jiray culumo iyo ganacsato ay ka mid ahaayeen Xaaji Maxamuud Ereg, Xasan Cadde Fiqi, Sheekh Cilmi Barkhadle, Sheekh Cali Yuusuf, Cabdi Khayre(Cabdi Kharaare), Faarax Qaarey, Cusmaan Gurey oo nabadgalyada iyo xasilloonisa iyo nabad ku noolaanshaha Gobolka Mudug qayb wanaagsan ka soo qaatay. Nin la oran jiray Khayre Gabay oo ahaa ragii gabyi jiray Qarnigii 18,una dhashay deegaanka hobyo, aya tix aanu ka hayno intan ku yiri:

Isha Qoolle oogada Hobyood uun horaa degaye
Nimankii awowgood lahaa waa adeegsimo e
Waa laga ijbaaraye marsada lama ibaaxayne.
Tixdan waxaa laga fahmi karaa in magaalada dad hore ay deganaayeen kuwaaso loo ,xoog sheegtay.

Hobyo iyo deegaankeeda waa meel Allaheena Weyni ku mannaystay nicmooyin farabadan , cimiladu waa mid dhex-dhexaad ah, waa deegaan xoola dhaqashada aad ugu wanaagsan oo biyo iyo baadku aanu ka salguurin, inta la xasuusanyahayna weli abaar weyni kama dhicin deegaankaas .

Waa dhul beereed aad ugu wanaagsan tacabka gaarahaan digirta, masaggada, qaraha, qajaarka iyo khudradda yaryar, sidoo kale khayraadka badda waxay ka mid tahay meelaha Soomaaliya ugu kalluumaysiga wanaagsan. Shirkadihii Soomaaliya ka sahmiyay shidaalka waxay sheegeen in deegaanka Hobyo ah in la filayo inuu ku jiro kayd weyn ee shidaal. Waa magaalo xadaarad iyo ilbaxnimo facweyn leh, waxayna can ku tahay kala duwanansha beelaha oo waa meel la wada deganyahay kuwa laga tira badanyahna aan xuquuqdooda aan marna la duudsiin oo weligeedba nabad dadku ay ku wada noolaayeen wixii ka horeeyay 2005,markaaso dad wax ma garad ah ay dagaal ka rideen magaalo xitaa aan qori iyo xabbad aan laga aqoon. Xilliyadii isticmaarka Talyaaniga markii uu Soomaaliya oo dhan qabsaday magaalada Hobyo waxay ahayd saldhigga iyo dekedda inta u dhexeysa Jowhar ilaa Bari ilaa dhulka Soomaali Galbeed.

Sheekh Calisalaad Sheekh Cabdi oo hadda ku nool gobolka- colorado-magalada madaxdiisa- DENVER,ee wadanka Maraykanka. oo in mudo ah madax ka ahaa wasaarada arimaha diinta ee soomaaliya kana mid ahaa xisbigii SYL ahaana mudanihii ugu horeeyay ee laga soo dooortay Hobyo 1956,deegaan ahaana ka soo jeeda Hobyo, waxaa laga wariyay in uu u soo joogay 35 markab oo isku soo gaartay Hobyo xilligii Talnyaaniga uu u diyaargaroobayay weerarkii Abbisiinya ee lagu weeraray Eithopia.

Magaalada Hobyo waxay ahayd xarun weyn ee aqooneed oo fidinta iyo barashada diinta Islaamka iyo culuumta si wanaagsan uga hirgalay, waxana mudan kaalintii uu ka soo qaatay Sheekh Cali Samatar oo markii hore koonfurta ka yimid hasayeeshe markii dambe Hobyo iyo deegaannadeeda xarumo ka sameeyay kuwaaso culumo iyo dad badniba ka aflaxeen. Waxa kalo xusid mudan in farta Cusmaaniyada ay tahay Hobyo halkii ay ka soo baxday 1921, fartaaso mar ahayd farta rasmiga ee xoogaggii gobonimadoonka ee Leegada iyo xiriirka ganacsiga Soomaalida inteeda badnayd.

Wixii ka dambeeyay 1960 magaalada Hobyo waxaa la soo darsay cadaadis iyo dib u dhac qorshaysan ee kaga yimid Xukuumadihii kala duwanaa iyadoo halis (victim) u noqotay labada dekedood ee Berbera iyo Boosaaso oo xoolaha Soomaaliyaintooda badan laga dhoofiyo ahna goobo aan xooluhu ku badnayn kuna dhaqmi karin ayaa dadka deegaannadaas ka soo jeedaawaxay Hobyo oo ah goob istraateji ah dhan kasta u arkeen cadow mudan in lala dagaallamo taasoo ay si ku meel gaara ugu guulaysteen, hasayeeshe waa hawl la isaga dambeeyo oo rag iyo rabbi leh.

Dib u dhaca kale wuxuu ka soo gaarey dadka u dhashay oo aan isku xilsaarin in deegaankooda ay wax ka qabtaan, markii ay arkeen culayska siyaasadeed ee saaran ayay Gaalkacyo iyo Xamar uga soo haajireen halkii ay ku mitidi lahaayeen magaaladooda HOBYO.

Haddaba maantay dadka u dhashay deegaanka Hobyo oo aan filayo inay ku baraarugeen sida ay u horumarinayaan dadka kale iyagoo ka faaidaysanaya khayraadka iyo waaya aragnimada arrimaha dunidawaxaa la gudboon in ay u tafaxaytaan horumarka iyo gacansiinta dadkooda iyo deegaankooda.

I was only joking, Abaker. But I think the relationship between omar mohamud & sacad as master and client was equivalent to the same relationship of abgaal & nuux muhamuud.
