Jewish Clan in Lower Shabeele

Post by GeoSeven »

I was talking to a family member earlier today and according to her, there is a community or clan of Jewish origin in Lower Shabeele called Abaa Jabiil. They reside in and around Awdheegle. Anybody hear of them before?

Yeah, they claim Jewish origin. They are a community of farmers and apparently, they have a practice of stocking their harvest and releasing most of their produce once it's been depleted in the market. They sound Jewish enough

I really hope for the sake of salvaging logic you don't believe they are actually Jewish.

Well I've only just heard about them and I don't know much which is why I'm asking but from what I'm told, they are originally from the Banadiri coast and they've moved inland since. Any Banadiri community could claim Sephardic Jewish ancestry.

A lot of Persian Jews were merchants along the East African coast.

This reminds me of the old Somali Shaanshi Jews of the Benaadir coast.

This poor guy was a lonely soul during the worst of the civil war and Ethiopian invasion, blogging to find a kindred Jewsish spirit in Mogadishu:

Since Jewishness passes from the mother's side, I wonder how many of the Shaanshi/Cad-Cad women Habargidir forcibly married during the civil war are passing on their Jewish heritage to their offspring.

Perhaps the happenings in Galmudug are the first signs of a new Jewish Habargidir generation asserting itself and giving signals to the rest of Somali Jewry:

Judaism is very different from the other Abrahamic faiths: matrilineal, gentiles can't really convert so easy, there is no hell for anyone and if you've wronged someone, you must ask their forgiveness rather than God or God won't erase the sin.

Anyways, I am aware of a Somali clan with Jewish origins originally named "Kabbalah", but Somalized into "Kablalax" who are the founders and devout followers of Jewish mysticism and immigrated to East Africa from Poland but have historical roots in Beit She'an

Gabre,

I know of two Somali born jews both from Xamar wyene and Mahadday. I also met another whose father was born in Marka when I traveling in Tel Aviv.

There is a strong history of cooperation with the Jewish people stretching back to the 50s when the American Jewish Committee helped sponsor the SYL delegation making the case for Somali independence. The Israelis lobbied for the Somali cause at the UN and offered extensive financial and political support if the Somali Republic formed ties with the Jewish state.

Unfortunately, the Arabist Somalis rejected the notion and made a hard pitch to become Arab. This was a political closterfuck which saw the Jewish state and the West pivot towards cementing stronger ties with Ethiopia. Somali foreign policy as a whole was formed by Arabist Somalis who claim relations with the Arab people and has been extremely unproductive:

1. Arabist Sayid Hassan Abdulle and his ProOttoman alliances - Highly unproductive as he did not know that the Ottoman Empire was the sick man of Europe and on the verge of collapse. Meanwhile the Ethiopian Emperor was developing stronger ties with the British. Hassan had the opportunity to make peace with the British, accept autonomy and become the Defacto King of Somalia under the British protection (a pragmatic arrangement that would have secured the Somali Galbeed from Ethiopian encroachment)

2. Arabist Siyaad Barre and his Pro then Anti Soviet alliances - The USSR pushed for a reconciliation between Mengistu and Barre in the 70s. They had convinced Mengistu to revisit the Somali Galbeed issue and to compromise on forming an arrangement that either gave the territory to Somalia or extensive autonomy or an formation of a Union of EthioSom that essentially allowed the Somali Galbeedian to be nations of both countries. Instead MSB decided to break ties with the Soviets, invade Ethiopia and wait on Carter, the committed Evangelist to support his invasion of a Christian Nation by a Muslim one.

As for the Galmudug connection, we are lost members of the tribe of Dan. I will leave it at that. As for the mineral concessions, the results were very positive. There is enough bounty there to create a very wealthy state and allow the 500,000 Galmudugians to leave very well. Seismic testing is to occur in late 2014 in a basin not too far from Sinclair one. It may end up some day soon that Galmudug will be the place for all Somalis to immigrate too and we can then calacaal about invaders from Waqooyi and Konfur.

Shalom AW252, I had hoped you kept the Sabbath but maybe you're Reform.

Thanks for the background, I always knew there was something odd about Somali clan lineage stories. The Ishmaelites' (Daarood) tale is known, yet the descendants of Isaac (Irir) never addressed.
