yes you can live without it.
just as arabs, we had/have clan system.
but now since people are civilized and live in cities and their is law and order.
people dont need clan protection any more.
arabs use today to know one another or as a family name.

There is nothing wrong with clans..or knowing your fathers and his father and so on..i am actually proud to know such info..i think we need to find a way to stop having qabyaalad, which is the misuse of qabiil, in our society. And this can really take place with a more better economic/political scenario. If you look at America racism was in the form of law and part of the everyday life, and that has diminished, and this is not because they blinded themselves from the existence of race and different races, but by eradicating the injection of race where it does not belong. Is American perfect example of how to get rid of societies negative social attributes? No, but a good example of how change can come about!
