Christmas, I don't think so, it's not part of our deen, and I'm not christian. Besides we weren't celebrating his birthday, it's not the 10th of muharram yet.

This was just muslimiin coming together for nabi amaan on thursday night, which is the best night for it that leads to jimca, followed by monday night, which the rasul told us to remember us specifically on those nights.

The first recorded instance was in ibn kathirs Beginning to the end, where in iraq I think a city official or very rich guy would slaughter some houndreds of sheep, 10,000 chicken, etc and the whole city would come.(don't quote me on the details) And ibn kathirs notes that it was a very good celebration or something.

becareful in what you say there is no such thing as good bidcaa your comments may have you saying statements of kufr. this is because by saying good bidca you are saying that you know of a islam better than that of the prophets and companians and the tabeen or some how saying your perfecting what the prophet SAW brought as if his teachings were somehow incomplete. According to Salaf al salih if it wasnt present in the first 3 generations after the prophet SAW its consider as bidca and every bidca leads astray to the hellfire.
