About bloody time. What kind of government can’t even control its capital? I am really growing disillusioned and angry.

The Shabab have finally withdrawn from the whole of the capital after keeping their lines for the past two years, losing thousands of fighters and killing about the same number from the TFG – and to a lesser extent from AMISOM.
The TFG will try to claim a major victory, but as I have said before in my blog posts, this has always been in the workings, with the Shabab security calling for the withdrawal so as to be able to intensify their operations, and to have their enemy thin themselves and give them more exposure.
The coming days will see a rise of hit-and-run operations and despite the euphoria some Mogadishans may have as a result of a chance to go back to their homes, Hamar (Mogadishu) is in for a long, bloody urban guerilla warfare featuring assassinations, bombings and night raids.

About time. One side had to win at some point. Will the TFG be able to secure the entire city though with that moron for a prime minister. They were unable to ensure security for aid recipients just yesterday.

They’re not gone for good. They are vowing to continue suicide bombings, but they have retreated from their fortifications and positions within the capital. But our voice is now one, we want them gone. We shall peruse them and destroy them, wherever we may find them.

Al Shabab can’t sustain a normal war with AMISOM with their sources of funding drying up and their increasing unpopularity with the public, so they want to resort to guerrilla warfare and hit and run tactics. Makes sense.
