Puntland Media and Sanaag region

Puntland media do have a devout interest in covering the news of Sanaag in order to balance their lopsided news coverage that mainly covers areas within their regions. Unfortunately, they do not have or hired journalists in Sanag region that can meet their needs for News in the region. I remember, once a young and very enthusiastic writer made a scathing criticism on this issue and what is pushing Puntland media to report biased and questionable news from the region. It is simple to appreciate the problem here. Since Puntland media represents disproportionately the news coverage of their regions, namely Nugal, Mudug and Eastern Bari, the lack of balanced news coverage according to the regions that correspond to Puntland administration turns to be so outrageous that it would make one think of the administration nothing but clannish fiefdom, which it is. But under the umbrella of Harti alliance, many have been left to accept the situation as the way it is or made.



Geographically, Sanaag and Sool cover nearly two third of the Former British protectorate Somaliland. Their population account for unquestionably a majority status. Considering both terms as numerical majority and sociological majority, they are both. Thus, it would be hard to silence their dissenters as well as their liberty to decide for their future.

The fact that Somalis are segmentary society, we often tend to not harmonize our views with those of us who don't share the same views. We are too partisan, too one-sided, too aggressive to even bear some semblance of truth, and too primitive in the bedrock of world democracy. These natural elements that we possess stifle our political relationship and common congruency: all leading factors of media problems.
