Test your knowledge - those created from fire
What is the difference between Jinn and Sheytan?
When people say "Sheytan and his children" do they mean that he literally had children and continues to have more or do they mean his followers?
Where was Sheytan based before Adam was created? (Christians believe he was an Angel in Heaven)

Question to Grant, James Dahl etc
Do you know what Jinn are? Do you believe they exist or do you see it as superstition?
Re: Test your knowledge - those created from fire
The jinn are a race of intelligent beings created by Allah with free will and with accountability to Him.
They are, therefore, one of the two “great worlds” that Allah mentions in the Qur’ân: “Soon shall We settle your affairs, O both you great worlds!” [Sûrah al-Rahmân: 31]
Allah created both sets of beings with free will expressly to worship Him. Allah says: “I only created the Jinn and humanity to worship Me.” [Sûrah al-Dhâriyât: 56]
As for Satan (Shaytân in Arabic), he is Iblîs, the singular being who was created directly from fire, just like Adam was created from dust. Allah says: “And He created the jinn from a smokeless flame of fire.” [Sûrah al-Rahmân: 15]
Since he was created from fire, he has a natural tendency for anger, passion, and reprehensible behavior. He refused to prostrate before Adam as Allah had commanded him.
Allah says: “Behold! We said to the angels, "Bow down to Adam": They bowed down except Iblis. He was one of the Jinns, and he broke the Command of his Lord. Will ye then take him and his progeny as protectors rather than Me, when they are an enemy unto you? Evil would be the exchange for the wrong-doers!” [Sûrah al-Kahf: 50]
As for the term devil – or shaytân in a generic sense – it refers to all intelligent beings who choose to act in an evil and iniquitous way, regardless of whether they are form Adam’s descendents or from the descendants of Iblis.
In his book, Terms from the Qur’ân and their Definitions, al-Râghib al-Asfahânî writes:
Every rebellious being – whether from the Jinn or from humanity – is called a devil (shaytân).
Allah says: “And thus did We make for every prophet an enemy, devils from among human beings and jinn, some of them suggesting to others varnished falsehood to deceive (them), and had your Lord pleased they would not have done it, therefore leave them and that which they forge.” [Sûrah al-An`âm: 112]

Re: Test your knowledge - those created from fire
The most notorious Djinn Iblis (na3altullahi 3alayh) is a jinn by definition. As Allah says in the 50th verse, 18th chapter of the Qur'an,

Behold! We said to the angels, "Bow down to Adam": They bowed down except Iblis. He was one of the Jinns, and he broke the Command of his Lord. Will ye then take him and his progeny as protectors rather than Me? And they are enemies to you! Evil would be the exchange for the wrong-doers!
Jinns in their world have the choice to be muslim, christian, jewish , atheist, buddist whatever. They live lives and have children just as we do, they live in a dimension unknown to us and unseen by us, as we live in a material dimension. Yes, Iblis does indeed have children he has a progeny as Allah said in the ayah above, a progeny is synonymous to the word offspring, given the fact that Iblis was granted immortality in this world the dunya, from its start to end, the amount of offsprings he has only Allah knows, but there are several types of Djinn:
GHUL
The ghul (ghoul) are shape-shifting cannibalistic and blood-drinking creatures that feed on the flesh of human beings, especially travelers, children or corpses stolen out of graves. The oldest references to ghul in Arabian lore are found in The Book of 1001 Nights. There are several types of ghul. The most feared is a female type (ghula) which has the ability to appear as a normal, mortal woman. According to lore, such a creature marries an unsuspecting man, who becomes her prey.
The ghul are nocturnal creatures who inhabit graveyards, ruins and other lonely places. Sometimes they are described as dead humans who sleep for long periods in secret graves, then awake, rise and feast on both the living and the dead. Ghul also personify the unknown terrors held by the desert.
In Persian lore the ghul has the legs of a donkey and the horns of a goat.
HINN
The hinn are weak djinn, close to animals, and they especially like to appear as dogs.
‘IFRIT
The ‘ifrit (variation: afrit) is cited only once in the Qur’an, in reference to a djinni who fetched the throne of the Queen of Sheba at the command of King Solomon. In lore, it is evil and powerful, and difficult to control.
MARID
The marid is unruly and rebellious, and the most powerful of djinn. The marida (plural) possess great knowledge of magic and have assisted kings and priests. They are also known as “blue” djinn and are the ones most often associated with wish-granting genie
NASNAS
The nasnas is another weak form of djinn, hybrids of human-like and animal-like forms, and may account for some of our encounters with mysterious creatures. It is described in The Book of 1001 Nights as a half- human being, that is, it has half a head, half a body, one arm, one leg. It hops about on its single leg. The nasnas was said to be the offspring of a shiqq (see below) and a human being.
SHAITAN
The shaitan (shaytan) is a rebellious, malevolent djinni associated with demonic forces. If the jinni is wicked then he is a Shaytaan (devil) plural. Shayateen.
It is mentioned in 100 verses of the Qur’an, where it mostly points to Demons (Devils) yet some places it points to Satan (Iblees). Devil (shaytaan) Refers to a type of Jinn representing Pure Evil. Most scholars claim that a Jinni may convert to Islam but a Shaytaan, in specific, can never become a Muslim.
Aamir (dweller)
If the jinni is one of those who live in houses with people, they call him ‘Aamir (dweller), pl. ‘Ummaar. Prophet Muhammad (saw) told us to warn a Jinn that lives in your house (mostly in the form of a dark black snake) – three times. If it does not leave the house on the third time, you then Kill it, because it is not a Jinn but a Devil.
Rooh (spirits)
If the jinni is one of those who interact with children, they call them Ruh, pl. Arwaah (spirits). We hear a lot from our children seeing cartoons in real life. Ones who are scared of water speak of the same cartoonish things appearing in water to them.
Qareen
The Jinn which accompanies every Human from the mother’s womb till his/her death, is called a Qareen. Hadith from the Sahih says that, the Prophet Muhammad (saw) said:
“Every one of you has been assigned a companion from the Jinn. The companions asked: Even you O’ Messenger of Allah? And the Prophet replied: Even me, except that Allah has helped me against him and he has submitted.”
Although People have categorized them as the above, we cannot be sure of how authentic they are. Except for those which source from the Qur’an & Sunnah. However it is mere categorizing, and does not speak of the real difference between them; we can at least be sure that they have Ranks in them, ranks according to their powers and their degree of rebellion.
And on the day when He shall gather them all together: O assembly of jinn! you took away a great part of mankind. And their friends from among the men shall say: Our Lord! some of us profited by others and we have reached our appointed term which Thou didst appoint for us. He shall say: The fire is your abode, to abide in it, except as Allah is pleased; surely your Lord is Wise, Knowing.
( سورة الأنعام , Al-Anaam, Chapter #6, Verse #128)
And Allah knows best.

Re: Test your knowledge - those created from fire
Satan was an angel in jannah. He was created from fire. He literally has children and marries and continous to have children. He eats and drinks, urinates, defecates and farts. The difference between jin and Satan is that jin are other beings like us. They have their gaals and their muslims whilst Satan is one fellow who was thrown out of the heavens because he refused to prostate to prophet adam(AS). This story is in Surah baqarah third page, surah Araf second and third page, surah hujurat first and second page, surah Taha second to last page or fourth page from the last page and the ending verses of surah Sa'd. Satan's enmity started that day and he made a pact with Allah saying he will lead many astray and Allah said Satan and whoever follows him will be filled in Jahanam. Jins were created before humans(i am not sure)

Re: Test your knowledge - those created from fire
I would not normally respond to this type of thread as Islam and Christianity take very different directions on this subject. This is strictly as a favor for Jasmine6, and it does not apply to more nominally Christian groups:
http://www.letusreason.org/LDS24.htm
Many Christian denominations do not consider Mormons to be Christian. This is because Mormons believe each and every human has both a literal Father and a Mother in Heaven, who have given birth to the "soul" portion of themselves. The personal name of the God of this world is "Elohim", which literally means "The Gods". Other worlds have other Gods, each of whom (male and female) is the literal parent of the human inhabitants of their worlds. Jesus and Lucifer were brothers. The difference between them was free will, with Jesus pro and Lucifer con. Their battle is for control of the souls of Man.
Mormons consider Jesus to be the Son of God, in the same sense that we are all Sons of God, created in His image. Jesus was just the first. He is no more a god than any of us. Our goal as humans is to become the Gods of our own worlds.
The core Mormon belief is "As Man is, God once was, and as God is, Man may yet become."
Mormons believe angels are men who have not yet received a human body, or who have ascended to Heaven and not yet been resurrected. Many believe Jesus is the Archangel Michael, which means literally "He who is like God".
Jinn have no part in Mormon theology. I am aware of the concept, but it seems strange. The story of Aladdin and the magic lamp reads like fantasy to me.

Acuudu billah! Where do you people come up with this stuff? The christians are a people that mean well but just have no knowledge what so ever. Unlike that other nation (jews) which has knowledge but doesnt apply it. Muslims are a middle nation, knowledge with application

is just another creaters , like ins, human, they have muslim and kafir. they are created from fire/energy. Allah put hijaab between us, we dont see them but they see us and they cannot harm us unless Allah permission.
Shaitan ;
means , who us far from , haq, etc.
scholars went between two opinions;
simply means , some one is far from haq, or damaged from anger.
that is why we call, iblis, a shaitain, cause he went very far to disobey Allah.
that is why we also call qofka an o maleyneyno ino hunyahay, wa shaitan.
