The letters Kh and Q are both in the Somali alphabet and are often times used interchangeably. Its harder for some people to sound out or say Q, so they substitute it for Kh.

Khaldaan
Qaldaan.

It means the same thing with a Q or Kh. It all comez down to personal preference.

There is no actual original Somali word that has the sound "Kh" in it apart from Khuuro (snore) even that might have been Quuro originally
khaakhaayiraad (rolling of the eyes)
khalkhal (waali)
khaakhato (phlegm)

The litmus test...place an arabic pronoun (if a verb) or a noun (in the case of an adjective) in front of the word and see if it flows

These are somali
naxnu khalkhalnaa
haadaa khaakhatun akhtar
limaada khaakhaayiratul bint?

Authentic arabic imports
al khanzeer yadcamul khameer
inahu khaneesun khasiisan
Lol

Dr. Dameer,

What's the name of his father? Kafaaji is a Cadcad family name, Nuune is a Walaweyn name. It's not a name used by Isaaq.

26June,

Don't project your reality onto others you shameless cross dresser.

Khaldaan
Qaldaan.

It means the same thing with a Q or Kh. It all comez down to personal preference.
So when you say Qaldan instead of Khaldan, it's a personel prefrence.
But when we say DH instead of R, we are "Qaldaans"

:dead:

Q and Kh are two different latters, so does Dh and R.
In essence, they are all personnel references as there is no
standard Somali accent. But it's only the southern who claim they represent
the standard Somali with their poor accent when infact the only "Qaldaan"
is you. Taking an Arabic work and than swapping KH with Q to attack other Somalis, there is nothing more
Khaldan than that.

:pac:

The Mudug/Puntland dialect is the purest most original form of Somali.

All other forms are heavily diluted/bastardized.

Wrong.the butchering of kh and q is completely incorrect and results in improper pronounciation of words.you cant just be reading the quran and pronounce qiyama as khiyama ,but hadaad carab la dihin maxanu sameyna,ya zwahili.

In defense of the Southies, the KH sound is rather unpleasant to the ears. I can see why they would drop it.

Says who, Siad Barre?
:russ:
Foreign linguists who studied the Somali language.

They place the origin of ''Maxaa Tiri'' standard Somali in Mudug.

The Waqooyi Galbeed and Banaadiri dialects are deviant recent formations.

Give me the link to it!

A white guy decides which
Somali dialect is the purest? Itarh cadi iska dhiq.

Southerns are a no voice
in the oral history. Even during
the Union, northerns produced the best songs/
gabays. What the southern poor accent has other
than sicking auto tones?

Itrah,

It's just speculations and they actually put Hiiraan as where Maxaa Tiri dialect originated.

Speculations are not facts and people in Mudug can't differentiate between R & DH.

Instead of jiidh, they say jiir.

So when they go to a butcher shop they order hilib ''jiir ah'' i.e rat meat instead of hilib ''jiidh ah'' (lean meat).

I could give you countless examples.
