Kenya doesn't have a united gov, Kenyatta has mentally retired, Defence vs Foreign Affairs battle each other

If you are surprised about Kenya's very odd behavior and schizophrenia regarding how it acts toward Somalia---don't be.

There isn't a united Kenyan Government across from Somalia.

Mr Kenyatta really essentially already finished his term psychologically at the 5 beginning of Coronavirus Epidemic. The only small motivating factor he had was preventing an ignoble legacy in Kenya being known as man who lost the Sea Case with somalia.

That failure to stop the case from going to Judgement has taken that last of that motivation out of him.

He is lame duck, he is not happy, and has already transitioned psychologically to his retirement.

Absence of that leadership has led to a mini bureaucratic war for influence between Kenya's Diplomats and Kenya's Generals.

Particularly where Somalia is concerned, the charcoal exploitation and illegal contraband shipments which are jointly run by Ahmed Madoobe and local KDF boses out of Kismaayo have naturally seen the proceeds shared with Kenya's chain of command buying their quiet support and protection of the status quo.

This profit motive is probably the least appreciated or understood aspect of the problems with Kenya and Somalia's recent relationship.

The diplomatic wing and Foreign Ministry have not been allowed to have independence and supremacy in crafting the relationship with Somalia.

The generals, bribed by the ill gotten loot from Somalia's environmental degradation have played spoiler abd/or actively prevented many diplomatic attempts bto reach understanding with Somalia.

There are a lot of things happening that all point to major upcoming changes to the relationshipen betweem Somalia and Kenya so it will be interesting to aee how this all evolves in the very near future.

May their conflicts arise and plans fail, Raila Odinga if he wins supports withdrawing from Somalia.

As I have said to Grandpa when he questioned why Farmaajo hasn't gone all out against Kenya;
It is not that simple Grandpa.

1. Kenya hosts the largest number of Somali refugees.
2. Kenya hosts the largest base of Somali diaspora wealth.
3. There is the matter of Kenya's legitimate security interest as well and the despite everything else, her presence in the coast has broken the back of Shabaab.

Beyond that "Kenya" isn't the enemy and really THERE IS NO ONE KENYA DOING THIS.

There is a war between Kenya's Diplomats and Kenya's Generals who have been running two opposed shadow governments ever since Kenyetta sort of mentally retired into the post presidency.

Thr implications are Kenya is not the enemy and in fact we have friends and partners. We should support whatever empowers them.

Also, I have always felt overt display of animus about Kenya as a general matter was not beneficial to us as you know, now I realize that is absolutely the objective of the Generals side. It helps push their power within Kenya.

It is possible even a number of the inexplicable things like this last incident may even be direct SABOTAGE of efforts from the Diplomatic side.

Just when Somalia and Kenya makes moves to talk about restoring ties, bam somebody lights a fire.
.

Hmm...

You need to tell Abu muscab iyo Filow to stop sending mx boys pretending to be AS to Mandera and Wajir.
People are smart these days they can trace all those footsteps heading back to Gedo after making attacks in NFD.
People of NFD are not dumb like in the 80s when they would receive collective punishment from plots of reer Gedo.

Ahhh. Makes perfect sense but why do I feel like it’s a cop out? Regardless of their struggle, I feel the generals would win regardless as they have the monopoly on violence and this is Africa after all. Personally though, I see the resentment growing in Kenya and the economy is in the shitters. It’s a powder keg waiting to happen

The Kenyan people have been sold out to IMF gangsters, debt is rising, unemployment rates are abysmal and the people are depressed turning to drugs and alcohol. That's why there was this almost schizophrenic focus on the Sea case, rallying people and blaming their issues on others is common occurrence for governments that are failing to meet their quotas and citizens needs.
