About: This section, “SomaliNet Friends” has been added to the site in
order to promote other sites with links to SomaliNet. Everything you see on this
section is automated without our intervention.
How can I add my site to the list?
Simple answer is just make sure your site (front page) has a link to
SomaliNet. That's all!
Why front page? To filter out search engines, news sites, discussion boards, and other sites that do not have permanent links to SomaliNet.
Details: Every link to somalinet.com triggers a a series of actions. The first time someone visits somalinet.com from your site, our software will visit your site's front page to check if there's a link to somalinet.com. If it is there, a snapshot of your site's front page will be taken and saved on somalinet server. From now on, each subsequent visit from your site will be be recorded for your site's popularity against other sites. To be fair to every webmaster, We have some mechanism to detect and cancel out suspicious visits.
Weekly Visits: This software will visit sites with low traffic once a
week to see if they are up and running normally.
Monthly Visit: Sites on this list will visited once per month by this
software to renew the thumbnail.
Technical Stuff: Our software checks the first page that comes up when your site
is visited (like www.somalinet.com). It does not follow links or refresh tags to
other pages. If your site is one of the minority sites with a secondary index
file please contact us so that we can train the software to remember the
secondary file when visiting.
