(SomaliNet) The Philippines armed forces chief of staff General Alexander Yano said on Thursday that Philippines is to send 320 soldiers to Liberia and Haiti in August for UN peacekeeping missions.
Yano said in a statement that the Philippine soldiers will serve for six months, with 165 leaving for the troubled West African nation on August 1 and 155 others heading for the Caribbean in mid-August.
"Every peacekeeping contingent we send is (a) realisation of our country's strong commitment to the promotion and preservation of international peace, as enshrined in the United Nations Charter," Yano said.-AFP
