Rwanda: Rwandan war crimes trial begins in The Hague
Tue. October 14, 2008 03:34 am.- By Bonny Apunyu. -

(SomaliNet) The trial of a Rwandan suspected war criminal began at a court in The Hague on Monday.

The man, an ethnic Hutu, is accused of involvement in killings of Tutsis in 1994. He allegedly raped three women and abducted and killed three young children. The suspect says he is innocent.

He requested political asylum in the Netherlands in 1998 because he feared for his life in Rwanda.

He was granted a temporary residence permit and was arrested in 2006. The court is expected to pass judgment in late November. More than 800,000 Tutsi's and moderate Hutus were killed by radical Hutus in 1994.-RNW
