Senegal: Illegal immigrants in Spain from Senegal repatriated

(SomaliNet) Senegal is to receive its natives who are illegally in Spain if Spain is to continue with its move to expel all Senegalese in its Canary Islands. However, the move to expel Senegal's natives from Spain has been welcomed by mixed feelings, leading to Senegal and Spain governments to conceal the expulsion.

"We have started the repatriations to Senegal. Of course, this policy has to be very forthright and all illegal immigrants must know, and the mafias that traffic them, that whoever enters illegally has to go," Spain's Labour Minister, Jesus Caldera said.

Early this year, Senegal stopped the expulsion of its natives from Spain, citing the use of force on its natives.

The number of immigrants from Senegal and other African countries who utilize Spain's Canary Islands has raised drastically. 24,000 illegal immigrants have been registered this year, a figure that is over five times higher than last year's figure. Senegalese and other African immigrants often travel in risky boats to enter Spain, on their way to Europe. Many end up losing their lives before arrival.

Senegal will only help in the expulsion of its natives if Spain upholds "their dignity and human rights." Senegal's Interior Minister said, "You can't just put them in a sack and take them back to Senegal."
