Somalia: UN offices attacked in Mogadishu

(SomaliNet) The UN compound in Somalia's capital of Mogadishu has come under grenade attack but no one was injured, a UN official told AFP.
Attackers hurled three grenades Friday evening, two of which landed inside the compound housing UN agencies in Mogadishu, said the official, who asked not to be named.
"I was not at the compound at the time but security members told me that the office was attacked by unknown individuals with hand grenades and I was told that two of the grenades landed inside the compound and no one was hurt," said the official, who asked not to be named.
Somalia has been plagued by civil unrest since the 1991 ouster of dictator Mohamed Siad Barre.
Islamist rebels have been carrying out near-daily attacks, mainly in the lawless capital, since their movement was ousted by Ethiopia-backed government forces at the start of 2006.
The embattled Somali government is struggling to exert its authority.
