Somalia: More Ethiopian troops arrive in central Somali town Tue. July 22, 2008 04:11 am.- By Bonny Apunyu. -
(SomaliNet) An Ethiopian military contingent with armoured vehicles arrived in the northern outskirts of Beled Weyne, the regional headquarters of Hiiraan Region, overnight, a source said.
The Ethiopia convoy, which reports say was stationed on the border between Somali and Ethiopia has arrived in Janta Kundishe on the outskirts of Beled Weyne town.
Somlai residents of El Gal confirmed to Mareeg online that the Ethiopian troops had crossed the border into Somalia.
A local resident who declined to give his name on security grounds, told HornAfrik about the arrival of the troops.
"They came from Ethiopia and they passed through Kalabaydh and Ceel Gaal localities
They are eight vehicles, comprising of one mounted with a Zuu gun, another with BM gun, a tanker and a number of Urals, Russian sidecar motorcycles" he said.
Else where hundreds of Ethiopian troops crossed into Somalia to escort as guard Somali troops trained in Ethiopia.
The graduation of these soldiers who have taken a month of training course on counterterrorism and counterinsurgency tactics under Ethiopian trainers in Ethiopia comes as Somali government’s troops have been accused of robbery by the residents of the capital and other areas in Somalia since they are not well paid.
These soldiers have arrived in the southwestern town of Baidoa as the Somali parliament held on Monday a meeting on the finding the salary of these troops.
In the meeting the legislative body members have that these newly trained soldiers to stay on in Baidoa town the seat of the parliament until their salary is being on the table.
The arrival of these soldiers raised fears of an all out in Somalia as the government and the opposition are predicting the full implementation of the peace agreement they signed in Djibouti on 9th of June.
The Ethiopian Somali soldiers have become frequent targets of islamists groups fighting the Ethiopian backed Somali troops.
Initial reports on these troops say that they will arrive in Mogadishu to start new operations against the rebel fighters.-Mareeg online
