(SomaliNet)
At least 20 people were killed half of them women who were sweeping the street in Somalia's capital by a bomb hidden under a pile of garbage, witnesses and doctors said Sunday.
Halima Abdow, whose elder sister, Fatima, was killed, described dozens of people lying in pools of blood, passers-by shrieking for help and children screaming for their mothers after a street sweeper accidentally tripped a large roadside bomb.
A source said the Somali women were part of a U.N.-sponsored food-for-work program. The road on which they were sweeping is a main route for Somali and Ethiopian troops, who are backing Somalia's weak transitional government.-The Seattle Times
