Tue. August 26, 2008 02:42 am.- By Bonny Apunyu. -

(SomaliNet) The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), a global media rights body on Monday called for the release of three abducted journalists in Somalia, the media freedom watchdog revealed in a statement.

The three foreign reporters-- Amanda Lindhout, a Canadian, Nigel Brenan, an Australian, and Abdif atah Mohammed Elmi, a Somali journalist, along with their driver were reportedly abducted Saturday near the Somali capital, Mogadishu.

“This shocking incident underscores the terrible dangers and threats that continue to face journalists in Somalia,” remarked Gabriel Baglo, IFJ Regional Director for Africa, based in Dakar.

“We call for them to be set free immediately. The Somali authorities must act urgently to see our colleagues come to no harm.”-Afrique en ligne
