Somalia: ‘Bomb’ injures Italian UN official in Somalia

(SomaliNet) An Italian, working for the United Nations in Somalia, was wounded in Merka, probably in an explosion.

The UN staff’s driver was killed, reported a security official. The Crisis Unit of the Foreign Ministry stated that the official was wounded with a Somali colleague and that the conditions of the two were nothing to worry about.

"It was a bomb placed on the side of the road that had as its objective the vehicle of the UN employee", explained Mohamed Mohamud Elmi, head of the security forces in the southern region of Shabelle.

According to a local UN employee, the attack took place in the late afternoon while the Italian and Somali were heading towards the office in Merka, coming from the airport. Witnesses reported that the bomb destroyed then automobile.- AGI News
