Somalia: Abducted Canadian journalist has 15 days to live unless ransom paid

(SomaliNet) Unless their ransom is paid, The Somali kidnappers who have abducted Canadian journalist Amanda Lindhout and Australian photojournalist Nigel Brennan say the pair has 15 days to live.
On Monday, Press TV, an English-language Iranian television station, reported that one of their correspondents was told by a kidnapper that unless the $2.5-million ransom was paid within 15 days, the two would die.
Lindhout has been held since Aug 23.
"This whole thing breaks my heart," said Lindhout's cousin, Angie J. Stewart.
"I appreciate all of the prayers and positive energy in support of Amanda and Nigel. May our efforts only intensify over the coming days," she said.
Lindhout, 27, of Sylvan Lake, Alta., was abducted in late August at gunpoint while on the road between the Somalian capital of Mogadishu and Afgoye.
She and Brennan had intended to visit refugee camps in the war-torn country.
The freelance television and print journalist had been working in Baghdad before she went to Africa. Lindhout had also done some freelance work for Press TV, which is based in Tehran.
In September, Al-Jazeera broadcasted video footage of Lindhout and Brennan.
The video showed the two appealing for governments to work together toward their release.
The National Union of Somali Journalists expressed concern Monday about the fate of the three freelancers, which includes a Somalian fixer.
"The three journalists were committed to bringing news and information about the swiftly developing events in Somalia to audiences throughout the world," Omar Faruk Osman, secretary-general of the union said.-Agencies
