Somalia: Islamists warn Ethiopian invasion in Somalia

(SomaliNet) The powerful Islamic Courts in Somalia capital Mogadishu have issued on Saturday a statement indicating that the country is facing a wider risk after Ethiopian troops involve in greater military movements in some regions of southern Somalia.

Sheik Abdirahjman Janaqow, the deputy leader of executive council of Islamic Courts who has held this afternoon a press conference in Mogadishu detailed about the military movements by Ethiopian government in Somalia saying that its troops crossed into parts of middle Juba region.

He said heavily armed Ethiopian troops led by what he called some of the defeated warlords moved into areas of Middle Juba region wishing to retake control of Kismayo port city, the provincial capital Lower Juba region and then extend their power to whole southern Somalia.

In the statement, it said the latest movements by Ethiopia in Somalia have two main goals;

• To jeopardize the peace and the stability in Somalia, fueling civil war and fresh bloody battle

• To violate the reconciliation process between Islamic Courts and transitional federal government, which is, scheduled to take place in Khartoum, Sudan late October 2006.

Therefore, we are warning the bad catastrophic resulting from the plain interference by Ethiopia in Somalia, the statement said.

The Islamic Courts also said in their statement that they are informing the international community they would spare no efforts to defend Somali territory from any outside enemy with the help of almighty God.

The Islamists called the free peace loved world to take the responsibility of acting on the intolerable aggressive and provocation by the Tigre government of Ethiopia in Somalia that will damage the security in the region and also the world should stand by Somalis to establish sustainable peace and stability and help Somalis to be independent for their future determination as equal to the world communities.

This latest warning by Islamists came as anti Islamist rallies happened in Kismayo in which people opposed the leadership of Islamic Courts in the region with many arrests in Kismayo port city, the third largest city in Somalia.
