Somalia: Former prime minister warns of turbulent times Mon. April 16, 2007 10:49 am.- By Mohamed Abdi Farah. -
(SomaliNet) The fighting in the Somalia capital Mogadishu is supported by the local people aiming to oust the Ethiopian soldiers from their city, former prime minister of transitional national government said in one of the Somali gatherings in UK.
Ali Khalif Galeyr, one of the leading Somali Diaspora politicians told the gathering that the insurgents in Mogadishu see the Ethiopians as invaders and occupiers.
Mr. Galeyr warned that if the situation is not abated more street violence will happen and this might lead to more human loss.
He categorically opposed the idea of launching attacks on the Ethiopian bases in the capital. “I think that it is better to go through dialogue than violence,” added Galeyr.
He said the international community turned a blind eye to the illegal occupation by the Ethiopians in Somalia.
He further said that the United Nations Security Council approved on 6 December 2006 that non-frontier countries should be deployed in Somalia.
He called on the Somali Diaspora to support a peaceful means so that the country again stands on its feet rather than contributing hard cash to insurgent groups operating in the country.
