Four men killed in road accident in the Al Zubair Wed. May 21, 2008 03:30 am.- By Bonny Apunyu. - (SomaliNet) According to police reports, four men were killed in a road accident on Al Dhaid Road in the Al Zubair area on Tuesday at dawn. The pick-up van in which the three Indians and a Pakistani were travelling in, was parked on the hard shoulder after Interchange 7 and was waiting to get back onto the main road, the police said. Deputy Director of Sharjah Police, Colonel Abdullah Mubarak Al Dukhan, said the accident was caused because the driver of the pick-up entered the road without making sure there was a clear exit. The van collided with a heavy truck loaded with sand and upon impact; both vehicles were flung 20 metres. Due to the high speed of the truck and the extent of the impact, the trailer that was attached to the truck broke off and landed on top of the van, killing all four passengers instantly. The truck driver, identified by police as a Yemeni, did not sustain any injuries. Police patrols and ambulances rushed to the spot after the operation control room received a call at 5.45am. The area was cordoned off and traffic was diverted to other routes, Police officials said. The rescue team pulled out the bodies from the site of the accident and transferred them to Kuwaiti Hospital.
