Fri. June 27, 2008 02:22 am.- By Bonny Apunyu. -

(SomaliNet) Israel and Egypt are set to have more talks on Thursday to facilitate the release of captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.

Agencies said Egypt is mediating talks between Israel and Palestinian group Hamas which, has held the soldier for two years.

An Israeli negotiator headed to Cairo to meet Egyptian intelligence chief Omar Suleiman, a government official said.

The negotiator is expected to press Egypt to keep the Rafah crossing sealed until Shalit is released.

Egypt played a major role in brokering a truce deal between Hamas and Israel which went into effect last week.

Meanwhile, the border between Israel and Gaza remained closed for a second day on Thursday, a response to militants firing rockets into Israel on Tuesday, and thus violating the ceasefire. –Agencies.
