Middle East: Israel reopens crossings with Gaza
Wed. July 02, 2008 03:41 am.- By Bonny Apunyu. -

(SomaliNet) An Israeli official and a Palestinian official in the territory said Israel reopened its border crossings with Gaza on Wednesday and was expected to let in supplies of cement for the first time in a year.

The borders of Karni and Sufa and the fuel storage point at Nahal Oz had been reopened on Wednesday morning after no rockets were fired on Tuesday, an Israeli official said.
"We opened the crossing after there were no rocket firings on Tuesday and we hope it will remain this way," the official said.

Goods will now be able to move across the commercial border into the blockaded territory, a day after Israel resealed the crossings on Tuesday.

He added that for the first time in a year shipments of cement would be allowed into the Gaza Strip and said that humanitarian supplies and shipments of grain and of fuel would resume.

A Palestinian official confirmed the reopening and said operations at the borders had restarted.-Agencies
