Thu. July 24, 2008 05:07 am.- By Bonny Apunyu. -

(SomaliNet) The US-led coalition says forces hunting for a Taliban leader have killed several militants in central Afghanistan.

Agencies said coalition forces were searching compounds in Saydabad district in Wardak province on Tuesday, when militants used grenades, machine guns and small-arms fire to attack.

Meanwhile, a coalition statement on Wednesday said its response included an airstrike.

The Taliban leader allegedly is behind an attack on a coalition convoy on June 26 in Saydabad. The attack killed an Afghan interpreter and three troops.

Separately, police say a civilian vehicle struck a mine in Khost province on Tuesday, killing four people and wounding three. Police official Yaqub Khan says the dead included a 2-year-old. -AP
