14 Filipino crewmembers from hijacked Malaysian ships arrive Saturday Fri. October 03, 2008 05:30 am.- By Bonny Apunyu. -
(SomaliNet) The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said the 14 Filipino crewmembers of the Malaysian ships hijacked by Somali pirates and the remains of a Filipino seaman will arrive tomorrow in Manila.
According to DFA, the crewmembers of MT Bunga Melati 2 and M/T Bunga Melati 5, as well as the remains of Jayson Dumagat, the lone fatality in the two Somalia piracy cases, will arrive at 2:20 p.m. at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) 1 via Malaysian Airlines flight MH704.
The Malaysian tanker M/V Bunga Melati 2, which was seized by Somali pirates last Aug. 19, was freed on Monday along with its remaining 38-man crew, including nine Filipino seamen and the remains of the Filipino seafarer.
Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia Victoriano Lecaros said in a report to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) that the pirates released the remains of Dumagat, whose body was placed in the ship’s cold storage, when the sailors were being held by the pirates.
The nine Filipino seamen released were Romulo Buhayang, Ariel Objaan, Rodolfo Buinanao Jr., Benito Adecer, Macario Pacione III, Ronan Maranan, Rading Maguan, Leo Andrew Sitjar, and Eleanor Madriga. — Philstar
