Bolivia: Crisis talks between president and rebel governors fail
Tue. October 07, 2008 03:52 am.- By Bonny Apunyu. -

(SomaliNet) Crisis talks between the Bolivian president Evo Morales and the governors of four rebel provinces have failed to resolve a conflict between the two sides.

Experts say the gas-rich provinces want more autonomy and oppose plans by President Morales to let the poor indigenous population benefit from gas profits.

Meanwhile, last month the conflict led to severe rioting, in which some people were killed. Agricultural minister Carlos Romero says the government had made concessions with regard to autonomy in the provinces, but these have been rejected.-RNW
