Kyrgyzstan: Earthquake kills 70, injures over 100 in Kyrgyzstan

(SomaliNet) At least 70 people have been killed and over 100 others injured in an earthquake in Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia.

Media reports say those injured have been taken to hospital by helicopter. At least 120 buildings and a whole village have been destroyed in the earthquake registering 6.3 on the Richter scale.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported the epicentre of the earthquake 55 kilometres east of Sary-Tash, a town near the borders of Tajikistan and China.

Another earthquake measuring 6-point-6 on the Richter scale has hit Tibet. The epicentrum was around 100 kilometres north of the capital Lhasa, where tremors could be felt. No casualties have been reported up to now.-RNW
