Title: Two Somali Journalists Murdered Description: Two prominent Somali radio journalists were assassinated Saturday in separate attacks in the capital city of Mogadishu. Mahad Ahmed Elmi was the first man slain. He was shot by gunmen in the morning. The second victim, the radio station's co-owner Ali Iman Sharmarke, died in an explosion hours later as he returned from the first reporter's funeral. Both men worked for Horn Afrik, Somalia's fist independent radio station. Mogadishu has become one of the most dangerous cities in the world over the last several months as it has become a battle ground between insurgents and Ethiopian forces who invaded the country to oust them and maintain power for the unpopular Somali government who is supported by the United States. The radio station has tried to remain independent, airing stories critical of the current government, the Ethiopian forces and the insurgents. It is unclear who carried out the attacks on the journalists.
