Re: Why are muslims more discriminated in Turkey than in US or E
Turkey is on another level and you insult them by comparing them to Saudi arabia.
but there one surprising thing.
Iran has more university graduates than turkey, more female engineers and doctors and scientists than than turkey.
overall IRan has a lead in Education.
this is becuase Turkeys anti-islamic minority, discriminates against against the rest of the population.
If you go to a muslim school, you will not get into university or work for the government.
Your only alternative is expensive private colleges, or overseas universities.
Change is in the air however, becuase the anti-islamic minority(which is a large minority something like 15-20% of the population) is falling behind in economic power, and through thier discrmination they have forced the muslim turks from backward regions to modernize very quickly and gain economic power.
Now most of the Turks with overseas qaulifications and experience are muslim(not secular/Kaafir),
Most of Turkeys small and Medium sized businesses are owned by Muslims,
most of the private sector companies that deal with high technology, like IT/Computer systems and electronics are owned and run by Muslims.
Oppression can be the best teacher, and it has produced the muslims of the 21st century well educated capable of the challange
and thankfully immune to the wahabi infection

Re: Why are muslims more discriminated in Turkey than in US or E
What has always baffled me is how Turkey is able to support such a well armed and well run military when it's economic performace is so averae? Have a look at the Turkish Airforce; how can they afford all that? Are the Turkish people taxed into the ground? How does this happen with the continually weak and fluctuating Turkish Lira?
And isn't it funny how the 'Islamists' are pro-Democracy, pro-Economic Liberalisation, and the Kemalists are a bunch of pseudo-Fascist State worshipping control freaks?

^ By depriving social sectors. Take the US for example, more than 40% of the population lack health insurance and can not afford or easily access health services. In all the big urban cities in the US there is chronic homelessness due to many reasons, but foremost due to the stagant minimum wages that have not kept up with the rising cost of living. The oligarchy that runs the US of A is admantly against raising taxes, but in favour of financing adventures overseas, hence the generous budget that is allocated to the Pentagon.

Turkey is a 97% Muslims country
or are you talking about those against Political Islam?
Turkey needs to be an Islamic state and retain their democratic values. They will become stronger that way. They don't need the EU.

FAH when they talk about secular, they dont refer to those who believ in the seperation of religion and poltics,.
the arabic translation of secualr is laa diini.
no religion.
those in turkey are millitantly anti-religion more percisly anti-muslim.
Syria is secualr, Iraq under Saddam was secular, Indonesia is a secular state, but those in power are not millitantly anti-islam.

I see. But in Turkey, being Muslim is more of a "name sake" or identification card more than anything, I guess. So we have "Muslims" who are anti-Islam. Because they sure as hell ain't Christians or Jews or w/e lives in Turkey's minority.

A Muslim country should be governed with some sort of Islamic laws and principals, my friend. There isn't anything backwards about. Sh1t, they probably have Islamic principals in their constitution actually, but they don't know it.
sharia was always updated every 100-200 years. Just check Ottoman law. It's no bidah. It's just that there is no Caliphate since 1924 that muslims haven't had the opportunity to update it.

I'm afraid that these secularist, Atheist, Anti-Islamist who against moderate muslim like Abdullah Gul will eventually get what they fear most... extremist muslim who will implement Iran/Saudi like laws. Remember Iran became the way they are today because they had a leader who prosecuted Islam or anyone he deemed religous.

Mad Mac
Sharia law is perfect law, its the law of God. Its the muslims of today that don't know how to implement Sharia law like the forefathers of the past.
PS; Mad Mac if Sharia Law suck and seclurism is soo good than how come Turkey was much better off when they were ruled by Sharia Law. How come the current Turks are beggers of Europe when the Turks of Old the Ottoman Turks were feared and envied by Europeans. Their Wealth and Millitary power un matched until the Arabs betrayed to Europeans.

EU tells Turkish military to stay out of politics:
BRUSSELS (Reuters) - The European Union warned Turkey's military on Saturday to stay out of politics after the General Staff said it was watching the parliamentary election of a new president with concern.
"It is important that the military leaves the remit of democracy to the democratically elected government and this is a test case if the Turkish armed forces respect democratic secularism," said EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehns.
Rehn told reporters he was carefully studying the unusually sharp statement by military commanders and recalled that respect for democracy was a condition of Turkey's EU candidacy.
